112 vs. 116 117 — which one should you actually call? 📞

As a new international student in Germany, this is one number-pair worth saving before you need it:

🚨 112 — Life-threatening emergencies only: fire, ambulance, serious accidents, breathing difficulties, chest pain. It's the EU-wide emergency number, free, and works from any phone, even without a SIM or credit. Available 24/7.

🩺 116 117 — Urgent but non-life-threatening medical issues: high fever, migraine, sprain, or when your GP's office is closed. This is Germany's medical on-call service, also available around the clock.

A good rule of thumb: if there's immediate danger to life, call 112. If you need a doctor urgently but it can wait a few hours, call 116 117.

Save both numbers in your phone today — small piece of prep, real peace of mind as you settle into life in Berlin.
