FROG invites you to an online event on May 23rd at 7:00 PM. Join the discussion with David Mäder-Soyka, who studied MSc. Environmental Sciences at ETH Zürich and was supervised by Prof. Köllner for his thesis a few years ago.
Currently, David is the Director of Head Sales & Delivery Property Solutions at , an insurance company in Switzerland. He is developing products that help to better understand natural catastrophes at the interface of natural sciences, tech, and the insurance sector.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS for the M.Sc. Global Change Ecology

Apply now for the master’s programme Global Change Ecology at the University of Bayreuth, an interdisciplinary graduate programm that deals with global change and its environmental, ecological and societal aspects. It aims to train highly qualified leaders for tasks and problem solving in science, environmental protection and political or economic decision making. Part of the Elite Network of Bavaria and with the cooperation of the University of Augsburg, this programme offers a lot of opportunities for your training such as participating in international conferences, science schools and seminars. Successful completion entitles the student to take up a PhD programme.

Dr. Sven Schade, Alumnus and member of the , DG Research and Innovation, recently visited Bayreuth and gave insights into the key topics of , , , and strategy.

On Monday, February 26th, Dr. Schade delivered a keynote speech titled "The Role of the EU in the Ecological Transformation" at the . It was followed by a panel discussion with guests, including Anke Herold, a board member of , and Dr. Axel Paulsch, Head of the Institute for Biodiversity (ibn). The discussion was moderated by Dr. Stephanie Thomas. The event focused on the role of the EU in promoting ecological transformation and how it can support the transition towards a more sustainable future.

On Tuesday, February 27th, Dr. Schade had an informal exchange with students of and associated programs. He answered students' questions on the key topics of ecological transformation, Horizon Europe, European Green Deal, and Farm to Fork strategy. Anna W. and Mateo moderated the discussion, which provided an opportunity for students to engage with a prominent expert in the field and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on these important issues.
"I found it remarkable how many interesting and amusing insights we gained into the work of the DG Innovation and Research. It became clear how interdisciplinary Dr Schade's job is and how he brings together cultural, scientific and political actors, perspectives and challenges."

Horizon Europe is a €95.5 billion funding program for research and innovation in the EU, aimed at promoting a more sustainable future. The program is divided into four pillars and 15 components, covering areas such as excellent science, global challenges and industrial competitiveness, innovative Europe, and widening participation.

The Farm to Fork strategy promotes sustainable food systems that are resilient to future crises, aiming to address issues such as global GHG emissions, loss, negative health impacts, and unfair economic returns.
