The season is just around the corner: momiji and momijigari, the "hunting" for autumn leaves.
Traveling to scenic spots to marvel at the beautiful colors of autumn remains a beloved tradition in Japan.
It closely mirrors spring's hanami, the viewing of cherry and plum blossoms. It’s a bit sad that traditions like these—which connect us to nature, celebrate beauty, and honor the natural cycle of growth and change—have largely been lost in countries like Germany.
Yet Japan, despite being a highly industrialized nation, has kept these seasonal celebrations alive. That is precisely why we always try to organize a shared hanami and momijigari with our dojo. 🥋
The photos below show views from our own garden and from Japan, mainly taken on the Yagu Kaido, a historic trail from Nara to Yagyu. ⛩️.
