J. Heisig is working in his master thesis on the effect of the drought 2018/19 in Germany on forests. He is using satellite images of various resolutions and a special campaign with a multispectral camera mounted on an aircraft for high resolution images.

Beside mapping the vegetation, microclimatic surveys were conducted in order to explain niche effects of the vegetation. Herders were interviewed about grazing management in the region as well.
