Fault tolerance is the ability of a mechanical system to continue operating during the advent of errors that lead to a fault in one or more components of the system. In a previous Resonance Science Foundation exclusive science article, physicist Amal Pushp discussed quantum cat states and how they help in the realization of fault-tolerant quantum computers. In his latest article, Amal explores another aspect that helps achieve a similar goal of making a quantum computational system less prone to errors. This potential arises from a fascinating class of quasi-particles called non-Abelian anyons or simply non-abelions, which hold the promise to unlock the full potential of quantum computing.
