EN A Look Inside a Bee Tree around 1300
Why is this colony being given a comb of honey?
This swarm only moved into the tree cavity earlier this year. Since then, the young colony has had to build its comb from scratch while gathering enough stores for winter.
During this inspection, I give the colony a comb of honey to supplement its stores and improve its chances of making it through its first winter in the bee tree.
After a careful look inside, the cavity is closed again. For now, the cord around the closing board serves as an additional obstacle for curious visitors or anyone looking for honey. Later in the year, it will serve another purpose when the bee tree is prepared for winter.
Until then, the colony can remain undisturbed inside the tree.
