Every once in a while you come across an obituary that leaves you speechless. From December 10th’s New York Times, 100-year-old Eda Solome:

SOLOME--Eda, born in Alytus, Lithuania, died peacefully at home, December 7, 2021, at the age of 100. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jacob Solome, daughters Elana Goldman and Nancy Kacew, their husbands, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The youngest of six children, she often spoke of her happy childhood with loving parents.

At the onset of WWll, her parents sent her to hide in the woods for what they thought would be just a few days to avoid the arrival of the N***s, but never saw them again. Surviving alone she eventually was taken in by a Polish farmer where she worked and hid; and where she met her future husband.

Arriving in New York she taught herself English in addition to the six other languages she spoke. Her gifts extended to cooking and gardening; but most of all she will be remembered for her gift of immense love and devotion to her family. Gifts can be made to: Anti-Defamation League or UJA's Community Initiative for Holocaust Survivors in her honor.
