To all the Valpo German Alumni!

This spring, the administration of our partner university Valparaiso University has proposed discontinuing all of the majors in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, including German, for financial reasons.

Please consider signing the online petition to support keeping the German major and two faculty positions in German at Valpo.

It would also help if you would share your own experiences and reasons in the comment box in the petition. The Department of World Languages and Cultures will submit a formal response to the discontinuance proposal at the end of April, and it is planned to include feedback from the petition.

Aalen’s international students meme! Back at the 90’s Party, we asked our students to make memes about their experiences in Aalen, and this is what they came up with. If you have some memes about Aalen, send us, let's have some fun together!

I hope you're all doing well and managed well the stress of the examinations period! Now it is time to relax and chill.

The Buddy Team would like to invite you to one last Buddy Event for the semester: a Grill and Chill at a lake nearby in Abtsgmünd on August 1st from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. As the name suggests, the main events will be grilling and chilling, but of course we will prepare some fun activities for you as well. We will have teams participating in the first ever Buddy Program Silly Olympics 😊

During our Buddy Event we travelled back to the 90’s, of course by strictly following all the Covid-19 measures from the 20’s. It turned out to be a fantastic and memorable experience. After all this time, our Buddies and international students had the opportunity to meet each other in person. Everybody was happy and dressed in colorful throwback/traditional clothes from their home countries, worn during the 90s. We had lots of funny games and activities as well as decorations which helped the guests to feel the vibes from the 90’s.
Amazing live performances by the talented vocalist Hun from South Korea, violinist Omair and singer/musician Lubna from Jordan definitely made the evening unforgettable.

Thank you everyone for participation. A Big thanks also to ALL our volunteers.

Our Sunday Walk & Talk was a lot of fun! (11/07/2021)
Ali, the student from Turkey said:” “Like every Sunday Walk & Talk today was also amazing! The weather was nice, and we had good conversations. The coffee shop we visited was the perfect place for the moment. Their coffee had that creamy richness, their Pretzels were simply the best — the best I’ve ever had. This place is indeed perfect for chilling out. Overall, the whole experience was amazing, and Pretzels were the star performers of the day.”

Breakfast under the cherry tree in a
magnificently beautiful garden, under overcast but friendly skies, an atmosphere filled with the croaking of frogs in the nearby lilly-pond, joined by the joyful chirping of birds and laughter and banter with accents from Pakistan, India, Ukraine, Jamaica, Turkey, Armenia, the USA and of course Germany, made it a perfect morning in Pommersweiler.🌎🌲☘️

The delicious breakfast made more luxurious by the handmade marmalade, cinnamon rolls and yeast wreath freshly baked that morning plus an array of cheeses, yogurts, fruits, dips, sausages, juices, and other beverages including coffee and tea-was truly appreciated by the international students.🍏🍒🍓

Heartfelt thanks to Family Program members: Gabi Köder-Weiss, Klaus Weiss and Emma Weiss for always opening up their home and hearts to International students! Special thanks to Trish Lehmann and Sardar Hakim for providing transportation to and from Pommersweiler.👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

All the COVID 19 rules were strictly observed, and it was a most successful encounter.
Here are some memories captured in pictures. 🖼📸
