I went on a demanding hike with my local guide to Sisiyi Falls not that far from Sipy Falls in Uganda.

After reaching the waterfall, we didn’t stop there — we continued climbing up toward the top of the falls, navigating slippery rocks and intense terrain.

On the way, my guide shared stories about local life and introduced me to khat (miraa), a traditional stimulant leaf used in the region. Later, we made an unexpected stop during the boda ride in a local area where I saw a very different side of everyday life and where people can actually buy some khat.

This was one of those journeys where the hike is only part of the story.

Exploring Sipi Falls in eastern Uganda turned out to be much more than just one waterfall.

With my guide, I hiked to two more panoramic waterfalls, each with its own unique view and atmosphere. Along the way, we also visited a small cave that’s known locally as a place where young men come to propose to their girlfriends.

Later, I joined a coffee tour with a local farmer, who explained the entire process step by step — from fresh coffee beans all the way to a finished cup. I got to try several parts myself, which made the experience even better.

And when I finally drank the coffee we had processed together, it honestly tasted like the best coffee I’ve ever had. I even brought some home with me.

I travel across eastern Uganda toward Sipi Falls. The journey starts on a boda boda and continues mostly by matatu — the typical local transport.

Along the way I’m learning more about the quickly changing security situation in the country, just three weeks before the elections. You can feel that the atmosphere is slowly starting to change.

In the evening I enjoy a quiet panoramic sunset walk with beautiful views of the landscape around Sipi.

The next day I start a trek to visit three different waterfalls, each almost 100 meters high. Near one of them I even get the chance to swim in a small natural pool .

Riding a bike around Jinja with my new local friend. We visit a farmer’s market, stop by a shopping mall, and explore everyday life in the city and nearby villages.

Some local people invite me in front of their house just because they want to meet me. I also try a bit of local language Luganda — and it definitely helps. Simple day, real moments, Uganda as it is.

🇺🇬 I spent half a day with the kids at World Guardian Organization in Bujagali, near Jinja.

No big speeches. Just time together. Playing, talking, laughing.

What impressed me most was the genuine love and care the managers give to these kids every single day. It’s not about big gestures. It’s about consistency, patience, and heart.

Very moving experience for me.
