USE THIS WORD! SOUND MORE NATIVE!

In Spain we use “tío / tía” a loooot.

We use it to say “dude”, “girl” or “bro”. It can also mean “guy” when referring to a stranger.

🇪🇸 “! Tío, no me puedo creer lo que me estás contando !”

🇬🇧 “Dude, I can’t believe what you’re telling me!”

Here are cuatro 😏 common Spanish-learning mistakes:

Mixing up “años” and “anos”
One means years. The other means... well, don’t forget the tilde (ñ).

Using “embarazada” for embarrassed
It means pregnant, not embarrassed. That’s a much bigger problem.

Rolling every R like a race car
Not every “r” needs Formula 1 energy. It's okay to do it with "rosa" but not with "aroma", for example.

Saying “Estoy caliente”
You mean “I’m hot (temperature)”. What you actually said might raise eyebrows.

Spanish tip: If people laugh, you’re either making progress or making memories. Often both 😄

EASY GUIDE:

❗️Use "POR" for causes or reasons (por ese motivo no voy a la fiesta), duration of time (he caminado por tres horas), movement through a space (me gusta caminar por el bosque) and cost (voy a comprar la camiseta por 10 euros).

‼️Use "PARA" for purpose or goal (estudio español para obtener el certificado), final destination (esta tarde nos vamos para Madrid), recipient (este regalo es para ti), and deadlines (tengo que terminar el proyecto para el lunes).

How do you say it? "He hecho esto por ti" o "He hecho esto para ti"?

When speaking in Spanish, which word do you use for "car" 🚗, "coche" or "carro"?

In Spain 🇪🇸, the most common word is "coche". However in Latin America there are many options depending on the area.

In North Mexico 🇲🇽 it is common to say "carro", but as you drive south, the word "coche" is widely used too. But there you can even hear "auto".

"Auto" is the same as "coche" and "carro" and it is quite popular in Argentina 🇦🇷, Uruguay 🇺🇾 or Chile 🇨🇱.

In English we have “you are” 🇬🇧

But in Spanish we have… 🇪🇸

“tú eres” (singular)

“vosotros sois” (plural)

“usted es” (formal singular)

“ustedes son” (formal plural)

“vos sos” (Angentina and Uruguay variety singular)

“ustedes son” (Argentina and Uruguay variety plural)

Or for places or temporary states:

“tú estás” (singular)

“vosotros estáis” (plural)

“usted está” (formal singular)

“ustedes están” (formal plural)

“vos está” (Argentina and Uruguay variety singular)

“ustedes están” (Argentina and Uruguay variety plural)

Did you know that the Spanish word “como” can mean different things depending on the context? 🤯

It can be “I eat” (Yo como pizza), “like / as” (Mi hermano es como yo) or even “how” in questions (¿Cómo estás?).
