Welcome to the Faculty of Social Sciences - a regional centre of teaching and research in economics, sociology, political science, international relations, area studies, media studies and journalism. Currently, we have more than 5000 full-time students. Approximately 1000 of them are international students enrolled in one of the many English-language study programmes. Furthermore, there is a floating population of about 500 foreign exchange students per year.

The recent tragic events at the Christopher Street Day march in Berlin remind us that prejudice and hatred towards LGBTQ+ people are not a thing of the past in society. It is in these moments that awareness, empathy and a scientific perspective on issues of diversity and human rights are all the more important.

More than a thousand scientists from around the world joined forces to create Humanity’s Last Exam – one of the most significant benchmarks currently used to evaluate the capabilities of the most advanced artificial intelligence models 🧠 Through thousands of tasks across scientific disciplines, the benchmark evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of AI models.

Among the contributors to this global project, whose findings were published in the prestigious journal Nature, are Vít Střítecký and Petr Špelda from Institut politologických studií FSV UK 👨‍🎓

What was the goal or main motivation behind the Humanity’s Last Exam project? How does this new benchmark differ from previous tests? And was there any result that particularly surprised the researchers?

🏗️ On Tuesday, 14 July 2026, planned power outages will take place at the Jinonice Campus as part of the ongoing building reconstruction. In addition, the emergency public address system will be tested during the morning. We recommend not visiting the building on that day.

The Jinonice Library will be open from 12:00 to 16:00, and the night study rooms will be available from 16:00 to 24:00.

Charles University has published the results of this year’s round of the high-quality monograph competition (2024 submission year). Three academics from were among the successful authors. 👏
👩‍🎓 Lucie Kadlecová from the Institut mezinárodních studií FSV UK ranked 6th with her monograph Cyber Sovereignty: The Future of Governance in Cyberspace.
👨‍🎓8th place was awarded to Bohumil Doboš from the Institut politologických studií FSV UK for his monograph The Geopolitics of Space Colonization: Future Power Relations in the Inner Solar System.
👩‍🎓 Karin Roginer Hofmeister from the Institut mezinárodních studií FSV UK ranked 9th with her monograph Remembering Suffering and Resistance: Memory Politics and the Serbian Orthodox Church.

On Saturday, 20 June 2026, the Jinonice Campus will be closed all day due renovations.

The restrictions also apply to the night study rooms of the Jinonice library, which will be closed on 20 June 2026 from 9:00 to 24:00.

The outage may also affect the functioning of some IT services provided by the faculty, especially Wi-Fi connections and the websites of the faculty, institutes and the library.

Are you looking for something more than just lectures and exams? Become a buddy: a guide, supporter, and friend to an international student arriving at FSV UK!

You don’t have to be Czech to join. Even if you’re an international student yourself and have already spent some time in Prague, you can become a buddy and help others settle in.

🤝 The Buddy Program connects local and international students at Charles University. As a “buddy”, you choose a student and help them navigate their first days in a new environment – from getting oriented at the faculty to discovering the city and Czech culture.

You will help them:
📌 get oriented at the university
📌 handle basic administrative tasks
📌 explore Prague and student life
📌 feel at home in a new country

And along the way, you’ll build friendships that often last far beyond a single semester 🫂
