At the beginning of June, our Bulgarian team had the pleasure of participating in a conference at the Regional Historical Museum in Sliven dedicated to Veselin Ignatov, whose research has greatly enriched our understanding of the Roman period in Thrace.

Lukáš Charvát and Dorka Mildová presented the results of their bachelor's theses, focusing on burial practices and ritual features in graves from the Yambol District in Bulgaria. Todor Valchev discussed settlement patterns in the region during the Roman period, while Petra Tušlová examined the possible reasons behind the persistence of handmade pottery production into the Roman period. Viktoria Čisťaková was represented by a poster presenting her research on ancient glass. And Terka, she was on holidays 😊.

Společná akce Archeologický ústav AV ČR, Praha a nášho Ústav pro klasickou archeologii, FF UK konaná pod záštitou paní děkanky Filozofická fakulta Univerzity Karlovy se setkala s mimořádním zájmem odborné veřejnosti a prezentovala široký záběr archeologických aktivit v dnešním Turecku spjatých s naší fakultou.

Sarah Japp (Orient Department, German Archaeological Institute)

South Arabia: Landscapes, Kingdoms, and Connectivity in Ancient Yemen

This lecture explores South Arabia (modern-day Yemen), known in antiquity as Arabia Felix. From the first millennium BCE, cultures such as the Kingdom of Saba prospered through advanced water management and control of the frankincense and myrrh trade along the Incense Route. Despite its rich heritage, archaeological research in the region remains limited, making it all the more important not to let South Arabia become a forgotten Arabia.

🔍 Ústav pro klasickou archeologii FF UK se podílel na výstavě „Dvojník“ v GHMP 🔍

Výstava “Dvojník”, která probíhala v Galerii hlavního města Prahy byla v uplynulém týdnu úspěšně ukončena. Vystaven byl sádrový odlitek římské kopie helénistického originálu ze Sbírky Ústavu klasické archeologie FF UK. Link v komentu.

Chtěli bychom také vřele poděkovat kolegům z Hostinného, kteří nám pomohli s organizací. Františkánský klášter Hostinné

Filosofický spolek Praxis a Studentský spolek Ambrosia Vás srdečně zvou na 3. ročník festivalu Sny o antice, který se uskuteční 20.-23. dubna v hlavní budově FF UK.

Cílem festivalu je popularizace antiky v celé její šíři, můžete se proto těšit na přednášky ze všech oborů, které se zabývají antikou – tedy nejen o antické filosofii a klasické filologii, ale také například o religionistice, římském právu nebo egyptologii. Mezi přednášejícími jsou nejen vyučující z FF UK, ale také z jiných fakult (např. PřF, PF, ETF).
