Disrupt market and bring new product or service to the market are essential market drivers over decades. You can leverage market entry on your technological excellence and protect it as intellectual property on one hand side but fully disclose your patent to public. You can also leverage on the regulation change and capture your idea fully opportunistically and be among traditional players on the market and other opportunists. Or you can develop new business model from assets or services that are already present among us, you can’t protect it via patent, you do not leverage on regulation change, but majority of recent market disruptions comes from business model disruptions. Excel in business modelling is critical area of success in today’s world….

Leadership as an essential skill for sustainable happiness and success

New times demand new approaches. This statement is universal and applies in every "time". However, the speed of the onset of new times has never been higher than in the last few years. The need for new approaches challenges everything we've gotten used to, what we've built up over the years, what we've already found our comfort in, and what we've smoothed out step by step so that we feel good about it. In short, what fulfills our routine well, provides daily bread, and a basic supply of positive emotions, so that we go into life with gusto again every day.

First it was covid. Lockdowns came and what at first seemed like a pleasant change - for example almost all children celebrated unplanned long holidays - turned into a nightmare for many people. The daily certainty that many people have precisely in that routine - that I wake up by the alarm clock, earlier than I would like to and I blame the world for it from the bottom of my heart each and every morning, then I get up and make myself a coffee, I buy whatever I feel like in the store on the way to work , then I buy my newspapers next door at the newsstand and I go to my office, which means, among other things, that I won't see my husband or wife until the evening and I won't have to solve endless disputes between teenage children, was all of the sudden replaced by the horror of the fact that I don't even know if I will still have my job in a few months, I can't go shopping every day, and choosing breakfast according to the particular tasty smells at the counter with fresh pastries is a dream that will not be within reach for a long time. So, in any case I will have to keep on trying to raise the children, willy-nilly, and my life partner and I will have to get along 24/7.

Social networks were flooded with thousands of posts on how to manage all this. There were whimpering conversations to share the despair that this time brings. Whining is perfectly fine and a valid part of the cleansing process we should all undergo in stressful situations. The awareness that we are not alone in such nightmare also fulfills at least one of our unsatisfied social needs at such a moment – relatedness, i.e. we have people around us who suffer the same way, and that helps. But the workable way is to whine, knock yourself out, and move on—which in the past few years has often meant stepping into the complete unknown. Who proved to be best in it? Well, for sure people who were able to set their own new WHY and drive themselves to the activity, even if nothing forced them to do so. They thus prevented falling into lethargy. By following a regular regime including sleep hygiene, regular exercise, regular care for loved ones, self-care and a good diet rich in nutrients and especially supporting the formation of the microbiome, they ensured a sufficient supply of good-mood chemicals such as hormones and neurotransmitters serotonin, endorphin, dopamine, oxytocin, but also melatonin, enkephalin, acetylcholine or noradrenaline. When others began to fall into depression, they still had something to draw from and were able to keep going. And the situation repeats itself with the shock of the war almost next door, the energy crisis, the jump in prices, high inflation and all its accompanying phenomena.
What does this imply? The ability to LEAD oneself, to be a self-leading BOSS, it is an essential skill for a sustainably happy and successful life today. More than ever people are expected to be able to cultivate themselves, motivate themselves, manage themselves, and correct themselves. For instance, long after the lockdown, students do have a lot of work online, which gives them, on one hand, a lot of freedom, but on the other, a much higher degree of responsibility for how they approach their study obligations, when no one forces them to do it and leaves it up to them. By far not everyone could handle it - ironically if they had to do all the work at school at fixed times as was the case always before, many of them would be more successful in completing their studies.

If you look at the job advertisements, you discover that those in-demand positions with a large degree of autonomy, with the ability to manage and set flexibility, e.g. all the agile professions, are much better paid than jobs with fixed content. The ability to LEAD - first yourself and then others - is not self-evident, it is not easy, and at the same time, it is absolutely essential for today’s success, when we seriously do not know what tomorrow will bring.

Therefore, if you are thinking about what new skill to learn to make your life better, to be sustainably happier and to be permanently successful, choose LEADERSHIP. Because everything in life is about leadership.
