Druhým článkem speciálního vydání Sešitu, věnovaného kulturním interakcím za studené války, je studie Magdaleny Anny Nowak „Clashing Ideologies and Shifting Aesthetics: Reception of the U.S. Art Exhibitions at the National Museum in Warsaw in the 1970s“.
“ The soft power exerted by the U.S. government through official art exhibitions sought to win over Polish intellectuals and persuade them that America embodied the true ideals of freedom and progress. These initiatives were less concerned with promoting art per se or with soliciting research-based feedback from Polish art historians than with pure diplomacy. Nevertheless, Polish critics exhibited a keen awareness of the ideological underpinnings of these displays. (…) Importantly, there was no singular critical response. Reactions varied according to ideological orientation: some critics, informed by revisionist Marxism, framed their resistance in anti-imperialist terms; others adopted a more bourgeois perspective, aligning themselves with Western European art history and positioning Paris—not New York—as the mature artistic center, thereby countering perceived American cultural hegemony across Europe.”
A jakou roli v této recepci amerického umění sehrály i v Polsku populární „mayovky“?
