Private Duhovka High school is a part of a comprehensive Czech-English educational system for children and young adults aged 3 to 19 – DUHOVKA. The system takes an integrated approach towards education and utilizes the best of existing pedagogical systems. We are especially inspired by Maria Montessori’s methods which support and respect the individual development of a child as well as co-operatio
n in groups. DUHOVKA seeks to teach children to think in a broad context and to nurture their skills and abilities rather than just facts. Our graduates should develop critical thinking and should be content with who they are and find their path in life. Not only do we expect our graduates to continue to higher education, but also to take an interest in education throughout their entire lives and to keep improving their skills and knowledge, just like our teachers. Our aim is to create a friendly and open environment where pupils learn tolerance and responsibility for their actions and decisions. In classes we prefer methods which provoke the pupils’ curiosity, develop their motivation to learn and let their personal qualities grow. The average number of students in a class is 18. We give special attention to a thorough preparation for the leaving examinations (maturita and IB exams). The teaching plan of DUHOVKA Gymnasium respects a balance between proficiency in languages, humanities and natural sciences. There is also a broad variety of optional courses. Foreign languages are taught in separate groups according to the pupils’ levels. All pupils take up two languages - English is compulsory and German or Spanish are optional. The pupils’ success is rated four times a year with a percentage as well as a formative assessment from the teacher. The school also organizes diverse after-school activities, such as introductory courses for first grade pupils, ski courses, foreign exchange programs and several hobby groups. DUHOVKA High school operates in Ortenovo náměstí 1275/34, Prague 7.
