Our PET-MAT team is at it again! This time in collaboration with sculptors and designers creation of 3D printed concrete street furniture. Expertise provided also from Ashish Mohite, much appreciated!

Animating Architecture - Ruairi Glynn

We’re witnessing whirlwind progress in robotics promising driverless cars, autonomous flying vehicles, and seemingly endless other forms of intelligent kinetics to soon co-habit our built environment. Ruairi Glynn will talk about how these technologies are expanding art and architecture's aesthetics of space, form, and material, to encompass concerns of behaviour. In particular Glynn has been fascinated with an uncanny sense of life, or animacy, found - often accidentally - in the objects and spaces we design to have their own agency. Alongside sharing his own art and architecture projects, he will share work from the Interactive Architecture Lab UCL where he directs the Masters in Design for Performance & Interaction.

Ruairi Glynn is a digital artist whose work has been exhibited internationally including the Centre Pompidou Paris, the National Art Museum of China Beijing and Tate Modern London. His interactive installations reflect on rapid developments in robotic technologies examining the emerging aesthetics of animate behaviour in art, architecture and design. He is director of the Interactive Architecture Lab at the Bartlett, University College London.

Interactive SOFT Actuated Environments
Vasilija Abramovic (FA + Bartlett London) & Jan Petrš (FA + ITKE Stuttgart)

Learn how to make soft robotic actuators, programme an Arduino, design and create an interactive environment. During this 7 days workshop, we will demonstrate exciting possibilities of robotics and architecture tackling flexible structures that can sense human presence, move and transform accordingly while being actuated with soft materials.
