The SHOT vs. BTS
Shot on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Pro, the students embraced a naturalistic approach — using Prague’s streets and riverside locations as the film’s visual foundation.
Behind the scenes of Cloudly, a student-made short film created entirely at Prague Film Institute, where the crew relied heavily on available sunlight and kept lighting equipment to a minimum — letting the atmosphere of the city shape the final image.

Makeup is incredibly diverse — from creating a natural look where the actor seems to wear no makeup at all, to subtle details like tired eyes or sick skin tones. And on the other side, it can transform into burn effects, cuts, wounds, and dramatic character changes.
In this workshop, students explore how makeup becomes a powerful storytelling tool on screen.
Because great makeup isn’t about being seen — it’s about making the story believable.

Cinematographer Nicolas Bordier introduces students to industry-leading gear like the ARRI ALEXA, Sony VENICE and anamorphic lenses — showing how technology shapes cinematic storytelling.

He also leads a hands-on 16mm workshop with the ARRI 416, giving students real experience with shooting on film.

Because great cinematography starts with understanding the tools behind the image.

Production Design is not just sketches and ideas. It’s about building worlds by hand.
Our students stepped out of the classroom and into the workshop, creating a life-size human puppet from polystyrene using saws, paint, and practical craft skills.
Because filmmaking doesn’t only happen on set!

At Prague Film Institute, we don’t just teach digital.

In our 16mm workshop with Nicolas Bordier, students shot on the iconic ARRI 416 — a world-class analog camera used in professional productions.

They also built a life-sized puppet, combining craft with cinematography.

Learning film the proper way.

This was 100% generated during the class with filmmaker and educator Fabien-Mariano Ortiz, students explored how AI can support the cinematic process — from early ideas to visual development — while still thinking like filmmakers first.

Because technology evolves.
But storytelling stays human.

The SHOT vs. BTS

Shot on the ARRI Alexa Mini with an ARRI Zoom Lens, the students shaped tension through precise framing and subtle movement.

Behind the scenes of Can’t Sleep — a short horror created during a 3-day cinematography workshop, where even practical effects (sausages as intestines, artificial blood) played a key role in the final image.

Three days. Time slowed down.

Led by renowned cinematographer Fred Kelemen — known for his work with Béla Tarr — students stepped into a cinematic language built on long takes, rhythm, and silence.

Working with the Arri Alexa Mini and dolly movement, they didn’t just learn how to shoot — they learned how to see.

The result: a series of self-produced short films.
Supported throughout by Nicolas Bordier.

How do you create action scenes that feel real, intense — and still stay safe?

Stuntman and actor Martin Hub, who worked on films like Titanic, Saving Private Ryan and Gladiator (as a stunt double for Russell Crowe), shares his approach.

For him, it’s all about collaboration — between stunt team, director, and actors.
Not just for safety, but for storytelling.

Because great action doesn’t happen by accident — it’s built together.
