🇨🇿 Sledujte aktuální počasí přímo z Žateckého letiště. 🚁

Na naší základně jsme nainstalovali novou meteostanici. Nyní můžete přímo na webu harrishawk.cz sledovat aktuální teplotu, vítr a další důležité údaje.

🇬🇧 Watch the current weather directly from the Žatec airport. 🚁

We have installed a new weather station at our base. Now you can monitor the current temperature, wind and other important data directly from our website harrishawk.cz.

🌦️ Continuing our concepts window, today TAF - Terminal Aerodrome Forecast!

TAF, or terminal aerodrome forecast, is like a weather guide for the airport. Unlike METAR (which we explained last time), TAF is forward-looking, providing a forecast for up to 30 hours from its release.

When you decode TAF, you will encounter a similar system of abbreviations to that used by METAR. Think of it as a key to reading the atmospheric code.🚁

Example TAF for Prague Ruzyne Airport:

TAF LKPR 020800Z 0209/0315 17008KT CAVOK BECMG 0218/0220 34010KT 7000 -RA SCT010 BKN020 TEMPO 0220/0309 4000 RA OVC016 BECMG 0309/0311 23010G20KT 9999 SCT015=

🕘 020800Z - Released on the 2nd of the month at 08:00 UTC
📅 0209/0315 - Forecast for the period from 09:00 on 2. Day of the current month to 15:00 UTC 3. Day of the current month
💨 17008KT - Winds from 170° at 8 knots
👀 CAVOK = "cloud and visibility OK" - Clear weather with no significant meteorological phenomena
🔄 BECMG 0218/0220 - Expected weather change between 2. 18:00 and 20:00 UTC of the current month
💨 34010KT - Winds from 340° at 10 knots
🌧️ 7000 - Visibility 7 km
☁️ SCT010 BKN020 - Scattered clouds (obscuring 3/8 - 4/8 of the sky) at 1000 feet, Clouds (obscuring 5/8 - 7/8 of the sky) at 2000 feet above the airport.
🌧️ TEMPO 0220/0309 - Temporarily from 20:00 to 09:00 UTC
🌧️ 4000 RA OVC016 - Visibility 4 km, rain, overcast at 1600 feet.
🔄 BECMG 0309/0311 - Expected weather change between 09:00 and 11:00 UTC on the 3rd day of the current month
💨 23010G20KT - Winds from 230° at 10 knots, gusting to 20 knots

🌦️Let's look at the concept of METAR

METAR, or Meteorological Terminal Air Report, is a key tool for summarizing the current meteorological situation at a given airport. 📡

This report is issued on a regular hourly basis, and more frequently in the event of significant weather changes. How to navigate in METAR? It uses a special system of abbreviations that allows a large amount of information to be conveyed efficiently in a short text.

METAR LKPR 020900Z 14005KT 9999 SCT006 07/05 Q0996
☑️LKPR - the relevant airport in this case is Prague Ruzyne
☑️020900Z - issued on the 2nd of the relevant month and 0900Z indicates 9:00 UTC (Coordinated Time)
☑️14005KT - winds from 140° at 5 knots
☑️9999 - visibility 10 km or more
☑️SCT006 - cloud cover covering 3-4 /8 of the sky at a base height of 600 feet
☑️07/05 - air temperature 7°C and dew point 5°C
☑️Q0996 - sea level pressure (called QNH) 996 hPa

🌦️Meteorologie: Units in the world of flying

Let's dive into the world of units in aviation! How do we measure different quantities in the air? 🛰️

ℹ️Distance flown on a map is measured in nautical miles (1,852 km).
ℹ️Distance determines visibility, describes the meteorological situation and is measured in meters and kilometers.
ℹ️The speed of flight, but also of the wind, for example, is expressed in knots, which are nautical miles per hour (1.852 km/h).
ℹ️Altitude is given in feet (0.305 m), which gives us an idea of the distance from sea level or from the surface of the earth.
ℹ️Air pressure is expressed in hectopascals, which is crucial for the correct setting of on-board instruments for measuring altitude (for example, the so-called QNH or QNE).

Although the combination of these unit systems may seem confusing at first sight, it has its advantages. When communicating and transmitting information via radio, this minimises the risk of confusion between individual parameters, such as altitude and distance, which contributes to air transport safety. 📡

🚁 Helicopter controls - Pedals 🚁

Continuing our series on helicopter controls, this time we focus on "pedals." These pedals are an essential element for controlling the tail rotor of the helicopter, affecting the pitch of the tail rotor blades.

Why are pedals so important? The helicopter tail rotor is designed to eliminate the torque created by the nose rotor. By changing the pitch of the tail rotor blades, we change the lift generation. But here's an interesting fact - the tail rotor lift force is generated horizontally.

Simply put, when the pilot depresses the right pedal, the front of the helicopter rotates to the right around the vertical axis, and conversely, when the pilot depresses the left pedal, it rotates to the left.

The pedals are the key element by which pilots maintain the stability of the helicopter and control its direction. Follow us for more interesting information about the world of helicopters and their controls! 🚁

🚁 Helicopter controls - Kolektiv 🚁

In our information window today, we'll take a look at another basic helicopter control, the "collective." The collective is the control lever located to the left of the pilot's seat and allows for up and down movement.

What exactly does the collective do? This element adjusts the pitch of the rotor blades, which affects the rotor disk lift generation. Unlike cyclic control, where we adjust the pitch on individual blades unevenly, the collective adjusts the pitch on all the blades of the carrier rotor equally.

In practice, this means that when you raise the collective upwards, the helicopter starts to climb, and conversely, when you push the collective downwards, the helicopter descends. The collective is one of the key elements by which pilots control the altitude and performance of the helicopter.

Stay tuned because this series is far from over 🔝!

💡How is the endurance of the Guimbal Cabri G2 light two-seater helicopter?

ℹ️ It depends on several factors such as weather, speed and style of flight, or weight of cargo, but in general you can count on 4.5 hours of endurance, which at a cruising speed of 80 knots is 360 nautical miles (660 km).🚁
