Five out of four people have trouble with fractions.
- Steven Wright

We recently welcomed MYP 1 parents into the classroom for an entertaining Math Exploration Session on fractions.

Together, students and parents challenged their maths skills through fractions bingo, a fraction pyramid, and most importantly, they learned, laughed, and solved problems side by side.

It was a special opportunity for secondary parents to see what learning looks like in MYP lessons.

What better way to launch TOIS Culture Day, than by planting seeds in honour of the planet that nourishes us all?

As we explored the “ways of life” that make up our global community, TOIS students, staff and parents discovered some of the deeper meanings behind who we are and what we celebrate.

Whether it was through...
.. the Mexican Hat Dance and making a piñata from scratch, or .. making Japanese lanterns, Kamishibai storytelling, and origami folding, or.. constructing an Eiffel Tower with some baguette tasting on the side, or.. reading Greek myths and legends before creating our own Gods, or.. shopping in a Turkish Bazaar with (almost) real Turkish Lira, Or.. made-for-purpose Vietnamese Fan and Hat Making, or ... the intricacies of Zulu Beadwork

We made so many connections!

We also learned to roll kimbap like pros and write in elegant
Korean Hangul script...
.. while our MYP students organised a session for Third Culture students to share life stories, experiences, and build mutual support among peers.

And then there was the surprisingly universal culture of Lego, and designing Lego art...

Whew!

And it all started by planting a seed.

Sleep. PLAY. Love.
Discover. Connect. Achieve.

Our recent MYP 5 Personal Project Exhibition highlighted student projects that included everything from measuring the impact of REM sleep on student performance, to making an electric guitar or crunching baseball statistics or balancing high-level athletics with academics, to publishing children’s books or making culturally inspired ‘Zines.. and so much more!

A big thank you goes out to the TOIS Community for joining us and our two amazing moderators for professionally guiding us through the event and asking insightful questions of their classmates!

Drop Everything... and Celebrate Reading!

March is our traditional Reading Month at Primary, and books have been taking centre stage everywhere you look
During our daily DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read), students pause the day to dive into stories and enjoy the simple magic of reading.

In addition, the last week, our MYP students helped Primary learners turn that love of books into a mini reading celebration. Around the school, young readers explored different stations: from interactive storytelling and drawing favourite characters to creating their own stories and designing «Proud to Be a Reader» posters.

A big thank you to our MYP students for organising the stations and sharing their love of reading with their younger friends.

Some lessons are better heard than read

Last week, our PYP 4 and PYP 5 students took learning beyond the classroom, travelling by train to Prague and stepping inside Ceský Rozhlas (Czech National Radio).

Welcomed by journalists from the international station, students explored how public radio works, why verified information matters, and how facts are checked before they go on air. Thoughtful questions led to meaningful conversations, exactly the kind we like to hear.

From the iconic Studio 1 to the international broadcasting rooms, students saw radio in action and even recorded their own short podcasts, discovering what it feels like to speak into a real microphone.

From history and music to live sports broadcasting, the day offered a behind-the-scenes look at radio in action.
And judging by the excitement on the way home... a future Radio Club might already be in the air.

Thank you to Ceský Rozhlas for opening the doors, and to our students for using their voices so well.

“All I want for Christmas is a healthy relationship with Santa.”

And thus concluded the The Great Christmas Rescue, the TOIS whole-school, all-inclusive, all-hands-on-deck Winter Show.

As elves, reindeer, snowmen, singers, musicians, dancers and angels sought the magical star of kindness, one thing became clear.

This is a great time of year to reflect on the things that we are grateful for, and be inspired to do the things within our power to make the world a better place.

The season of giving is upon us

As we organise school wide-activities to support important causes at home and abroad, we would like to take a moment to look back at the first such event of the school year - «I’m Running With You» Charity Run, which raised 125,000 CZK to help fund cancer research and support families facing serious illness.

As an official partner to the Emil Zatopek Ostrava Golden Marathon, we were happy to team up with Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist Jaroslav Kulhavý to help deliver a message of hope.
We’re so proud of our runners and grateful to be part of this inspiring event that connects sport, community, and compassion.

Since its very beginning, TOlS has been envisioned as an Open Door for Humanity and Compassion, offering education empowered by connections, friendship, and never ending opportunities. For all. Without difference.

Such a commitment makes us responsible for implementing equitable approaches to teaching and learning. It binds us to the principles of Warm Demanders and Emotionally Available Adults, those who will not let students fail, no matter which colour of the rainbow they chose or were chosen to wear by life.

Our Love, Mission, and Values lead us to protect and support the extraordinary ways of our students’ minds, guiding them toward freedom, maturity, and their fullest potential.
At the IB Global Conference, during our session, “Assessment for Inclusion in an IB Continuum School,” we had the privilege of sharing our stories with educators from all over the world.
We carried a message of Open Doors to Opportunities, and the courage to make a change, for the sake of making a difference.

To include means to Love, Care, and Never Let Fail.

At TOIS, we strive to embed teamwork and fun in every student assignment and classroom activity. Sometimes, it is nice to get the whole family together for an afternoon of pure enjoyment where we get to see another side of one another.

The TOIS Community Badminton Tournament is organised by our DP students as a Creativity-Activity-Service project, that brings together members from the entire spectrum of our community, and reminds us that the shuttle may fall, but the player must rise.

We’re all looking forward to the next TOIS event!

Energy! We recently took some time to recharge our batteries and awaken the chemistry we have with science.

The TOIS student-led Science Club conceived and realised a school-wide celebration of the United Nations World Science Day for Peace and Development.
Students designed the experiments, and ran an entertaining and edifying show.

Now that’s energising!
