Intensive programme of the Master of Arts in Euroculture. Summer 2018, Kraków, Poland.

The Euroculture Intensive Programme is a unique component and event of the Master of Arts in Euroculture, an Erasmus Mundus programme ran simultaneously in a consortium of 8 European Universities. During the second semester of the MA all students from the partner universities meet with Euroculture faculty, European experts, academics, practitioners and alumni of the programme during a seven-day summer school, which we call the IP.

IP Day 7 -part 1

Last day of this year’s IP was very busy, so we will come with photos in two parts.

First one will focus on Student projects, concluding several days when students worked on
their projects. Our three amazing lecturers guided students through the process of
portraying their reflection of youth, or their polemics with the stereotypical perception of
youth in society and in the media, using diverse techniques of expression, varying from
artistic techniques in the purest sense of the word through multimedia to dramatization.

Everyone had a great time checking and listening to all the projects, also becoming part of
several of them to some point.

For the prresentation, we were so happy that two out of out three lecturers were able to join
us.

We hope everyone enjoyed the afternoon the way we did!

We started our morning by Keynote lecture by dr. Petra Guasti from Charles University about Varieties of Illiberal backlash in Central Europe, followed by roundtable discussion.

In the afternoon, we had two paralel parts. In the lecture room we had a chance to listed to many interesting papers as part of the Scholar conference, concluded with another roundtable discussion.

Students participated in Career day. In four different groups they had a chance to talk to Euroculture alumni working in various fields about their life and workd experience after their studies.

IP Day 5

Thursday of this year´s IP was decated to excursion. Students and some of the tutors went to Dolní Vítkovice, which used to be a heavy industial area including coal mining, coke ovens and blast furnace operations, almost in the middle of Ostrava. It was turned into national site of industrial heritage in 2002, and in 2008 it was listed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites under name The Industrial Complexes at Ostrava.

Parts of the vast area found a new purpose, as it became a host of various cultural events, music festivals as world famous Colours of Ostrava, museums, concerts and more. One of the parts of the area is the Science and Technology Centre, where its mirrored facade hides four permanent interactive exhibitions.

Students enjoyed the trip out of Olomouc and had a good time (we hope) 😊

IP Day 4

It is hard to believe that IP is already it its second half!

Most Wednesday programme was dedicated to Student projects. We will not spoil anything about the projects yet, but we can tell that we are very excited this year – it will be different! All this is thanks to three amazing lecturers, Vladislava Závrská, Petra Ševců and Pavla Baštanová. Students also got feedback to their IP Papers in the afternoon.

Important part of each IP is IP Roundtable – a discussion between staff of each university with student representatives of 1st and 2nd semester from each university. Roundtable is a tool we use to get a feedback from students as we are constantly working on making Euroculture better and better.

IP Day 3

We cannot believe that third day of the IP is already over! Tuesday was rather academiclly themed, as students finished their IP Paper presentations in the morning, and afternoon was full of interesting lectures!

Afternoon was kicked-off by Tomáš Katrňák, professor of sociology from Masaryk University in Brno, who introduced us to the concept of inequality of educational opportunity that is common in social stratification research, in light of educational expansion of European countries after launching of Bologna process in 2000. Next lecturer, politologist Ondřej Slačálek from Charles University in Prague, had everyone engaged in the discussion about if we are subcultures and if we can see cultures wars as mutually produced moral panic and conflict between generations.
After coffee break, everyone got back together to hear a lecture by Elisabeth Goering, professor from Indiana University-Indianapolis, when we had a chance to explore the perceptions of Gen Z in the workplace that are perpetuated through media messages. Last lecture of the day way presented by dr Sanja Nielsson from Dalarna University who talked about the youth of the Hare Krishna movement from Sweden´s experiences of bringing their unique voices and culture to the streets of Europe.

The whole day was wraped up by Chill-out evening in our Department´s backyard. Students had a chance to relax after two days of IP Paper presentations, enjoying Czech beer and lovely evening 😊

IP Day 2

First day of thiy year´s IP is almost behind us. What a busy day! In the morning students started to present theis IP Papers and we heard they all went pretty well! We cannot wait to hear the rest of them tomorrow 🙂

Afternoon was dedicated to the introduction into Student project, which we are wery excited about this year. Students were really interested in the ways they can elaborate their ideas and we are so looking forward to seeing the results this year!

For the final part of today´s programme everyone met in our main lecture room for the first two lectures of this year´s IP Panels. In lecture by our colleague Lars Klein from University of Göttingen about „which generation is better“, he analyzed which function the talk about generation has, how i tis led and why i tis (o rit is not) useful. It was followed by lecture by Alice Koubová, philosopher from the Czech Academy of Sciences. In her lecture, she summarized the tropes connected to neoliberal interpretation of resilience and showe under which conditions resilience can still offer a unique conceptual framework, research approach and ethical standpoint useful for the youth in the current situation.

And a little bit of colour for the end 😊

Well, we think we were pretty busy today. We will be back tomorrow with more!

IP 2023 Day 1

Euroculture IP 2023 is finally here! After long months of waiting (almost) everyone have finally made it to Olomouc and we kicked-off the whole IP! 😊

We must say that the first days is always the most easy one, as everyone is getting to know the new surroundings and trying to navigate the new place. We had a very warm welcome by Euroculture Olomouc director of studies, Antonín Kalous, then we went through all the aspects of the whole week, had some small resfeshments and after a brief information students left the building to explore Olomouc during a small orienteering activity. The fastest group made in in something over a half an hour!

Tomorrow will be a bit more busy with IP Paper sessions and first of IP Panels with lectures. So see you tomorrow!
