The Centre, Edge, Boundary – Changing Margins of Culture is the theme of this year’s Oscar-day, and we at the International Semiotics Institute (ISI) are delighted to share this call for papers with our members and friends around the world!

How does culture define its borders, margins, and peripheries? What happens when the marginal starts pushing back on the centre? From canonized meanings to camp and kitsch, from dominant narratives to the disordered, Oscar-day invites you to explore how cultural boundaries shift, sieve, and transform meaning in the semiosphere.

This is a wonderful opportunity to return to the roots of ISI—founded by Prof. Eero Tarasti—in the heart of Finland 🇫🇮… and yes, Santa Claus will be near 🎅
