🎓 GLODEP Students Meet GLODEP Scholars: Online Discussion on the PhD Journey
Last week, we were delighted to bring together our current GLODEP students with several alumni who are now pursuing (or have completed) their PhD studies - Shreya Paudel, Chifundo Mchowa, and Hind Abushkhadim.
The session created a wonderful space for open dialogue, honest reflections, and practical guidance on academic career paths. Our GLODEP alumni shared their personal trajectories - from navigating applications and funding opportunities to choosing research topics and studying for a PhD.
Key takeaways included:
- Trusting your academic curiosity when defining your research interests
- Building strong networks and reaching out early to potential supervisors
- Staying resilient through uncertainty and rejections
- Recognizing the value of interdisciplinary and international perspectives gained in GLODEP
A huge thank you to our alumni for their generosity and willingness to support the next generation of researchers. 🌍✨
And to our current students - Karla Cajas Luzuriaga, Germán Camilo Panqueva Jacobo, Hafsa Murtaza, and Mouhcine Oubih - for your questions, enthusiasm, and thoughtful engagement that made the discussion truly inspiring.
This is what the GLODEP community is all about: learning from one another, expanding opportunities, and strengthening academic pathways across the globe.

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of hosting an online meetup between GLODEP alumni and our current GLODEP students - a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the bridge between past and present cohorts of our global development community.
Our alumni generously shared their experiences from the GLODEP program, the skills they found most valuable, and the realities of transitioning into the professional world. Most importantly, they offered insights into their job positions, highlighting the diverse career paths that GLODEP opens.
What stood out most was the openness, advice, and encouragement to our students - whether about internships, thesis challenges, job searching, or navigating life across countries.
A huge thank you to all alumni who joined us - Jose Jeronimo Olvera Leon, Meltreen Sikele and Fabiola Canas - and contributed so meaningfully. Your engagement continues to shape the GLODEP community and motivates our students to explore their own paths in global development.
Looking forward to many more moments of connection like this! 🌍💬
