I have just prepared a lesson to compare maternity leave in the UK and USA. I have to say that in this matter I am happy to live in the Czech Republic.

However, what connects all women, who decide to become mothers, is the huge decision between career or full-time motherhood. Regardless of your choice, one part of you becomes unfulfilled. We can fight for equality as much as we want but when it comes to this decision we have to make it......

I hope that my daughter and generations that follow will not have to make choices as we do now. I hope that society would accept the fact that women do not loose their brain cells upon giving birth.

Children are not usually the top of our lives but they are the reason of our journey.

The knowledge of a language is a tool. It helps, however, know your partner, the person who reads your message.

I made this discovery a long time ago when I used in an internal e-mail that we would travel to our destination by a coach.

My question is what is the difference between a bus and a coach (British English) :)

Should you wish to experience a great comedy with that distinctive British humor and sarcasm I would highly recommend a play from William Douglas-Home The Kingfisher in the Ungel Theater with Petr Kostka, František Němec and Alena Vránová.

I have finally started my work on Representations of women in the Victorian novel in the domains of marriage, education and work :)
Just a tiny thought on what has really changed? Are we equal? Is there an equality?
Well, to answer the question with various laws to "protect" women, women can divorce, can keep their property and they are not the property of their husband and we can vote.
But are we really equal?

Woman in Gold - a must see film - fab story and fab film. At one moment you want to cry and next you laugh. Excellent English - both American as well as British with added benefit of other nationalities spoken English. I saw the film yesterday and I still have to think about the powerful message .....

Far from the madding crowd - a moving drama - a must see. A novel written about 150 years ago by Thomas Hardy - for my ex students a Victorian Era - and still true - story of love, duty, understanding and of course money. I am not going to tell you much - go and see it. Ladies if you think that you have the short straw, well think again. Now you do not have to wait till your husband dies, you just divorce. Imagine that this privilege would be for men only ;)

In 1730 Mary Anstell had pointed out that if there was a difference in intellect between men and women (a point be no means conceded) a great deal of it must be due to training. If girls were given the same education as boys it might then, and only then, be possible to discover if there was any innate between them in mental abilities.
