🇨🇦 The Canadian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, H.E. Emily McLaughlin, visited our university!
The meeting focused on presenting university activities and the cooperation between BUT and Canadian institutions, as well as discussing opportunities for further collaboration. 🤝
The Ambassador viewed the results of creative work from BUT students in technological fields and had the chance to converse with team representatives from YSpace, BUT Drone research center, Chicken Wings, TU Brno Racing, Pneumobil Racing Team Brno and strojLAB.
The visit then moved to a meeting room, where the actual meeting with university and faculty representatives chaired by BUT rector Ladislav Janíček took place.

↗️ Times Higher Education has published the latest subject rankings in THE World University Rankings by Subject 2025!
👏 Our university has ranked in three out of eleven possible subjects, confirming its leading position in the Czech Republic. In the field of engineering, it maintained its status as the best Czech university and improved its ranking in computer science.
In computer science specifically, BUT advanced to second place among Czech universities, surpassing the Czech Technical University in Prague and ranking right behind Charles University. Overall, BUT is ranked 501st–600th in this subject category, competing against 1,122 institutions (compared to 1,027 last year) from 83 countries. The top three spots are held by Oxford, Cambridge, and MIT. 💻✅

🔥🛰️ We have some amazing news to share! The student team YSpace has been selected as one of the five teams chosen by ESA - European Space Agency to continue in the Fly Your Satellite! Design Booster program.
🚀 Space technology enthusiasts from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering have secured exclusive professional and technological support from ESA for the next 18 months.
This brings them closer to launching a satellite as part of the CIMER space mission, a collaborative project between YSpace and researchers from Mendel University, focusing on studying cyanobacteria behavior in microgravity. A 3U CubeSat equipped with a module containing cyanobacteria will aid in this research. 🦠 ✨🛰️💨

🇪🇺🌍 Great news: From October 22 to 24, 2025, BUT will have the honor of hosting the annual meeting of the prestigious network of European technical and research universities, CESAER .
The main theme of the event will be international collaboration for a sustainable future. It will also include the 39th General Assembly of the network's members. This decision was made by the network's board during its last General Assembly in October 2024 in Glasgow. 🌿💡

🤝 The success of last year's roundtable, focused on the promotion of technical and science education, was followed by another meeting at the end of November on the premises of our university.
The topic of the discussion, introduced by Prime Minister Petr Fiala and Czech Education Minister Mikuláš Bek, was the concrete steps that have been taken to support STEM studies over the past year, as well as an analysis of the needs and expectations of students, employers and academia. 🎓
The debate also focused on the new Economic Strategy of the Czech Republic and recent reports from the European Commission, including the Mario Draghi report, which highlight the importance of investing in education and technological research.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the government, technical and science universities, industry and other organisations and institutions that support STEM studies in their activities.
The conclusions of the roundtable highlight the importance of promoting technical education and collaboration. The findings of the surveys will be shared with government and partners. As the EULiST Chair University, BUT is planning measures to promote STEM internationally and will organise the CESAER Annual Meeting in October 2025 with 150 participants from European technical universities. ✅

🌿📈 Our university ranked 477th out of 1 743 published educational institutions in the third edition of QS Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025 (QSS).
This places us among the top 27% of universities in the rankings and fifth among the twelve ranked Czech universities. 👏
🌍 BUT has also developed a sustainability plan for key areas: education, research, property management, and social responsibility. The plan includes clear goals and actions, along with a calculation of its carbon footprint.
📚 Education: New programs focused on e-mobility and nuclear energy.
🔬 Research: Technologies for ecological materials, smart energy systems, and landscape protection.
🏢 Management: Emphasis on energy savings, responsible procurement, and sustainable operations.
