A storytelling advent calendar!

24 storytellers – 24 days – 24 stories

Stories about kindness, peace, generosity, compassion, hope – stories to accompany us in this magical period – stories to make us reflect and to help us become a better version of ourselves.

Join us everyday for the second edition of Words of Kindness!
For 24 days, from December 1st to December 24th, we'll share some of our favourite stories – find the stories on YouTube (a new story is released every day on my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/ at 4am CET - subscribe to the channel to receive notifications and never miss your daily dose of kindness!), or shared on social media.

The calendar is free for everyone to watch and enjoy – so share it widely with your friends and family all over the world! We hope you enjoy it!

Also, big thank you from me to the 23 amazing storytellers who have joined me once again on this project and brought it to life!

Storytelling in Education - Global Online Conference II edition

MEET THE SPEAKERS AND LEARN ABOUT THE SESSIONS!

Introducing... David Heathfield, Haneen Jadallah and Jackie Ross!

David Heathfield is a storyteller, teacher of English and teacher trainer from Exeter, UK. He is the author of the Teacher Development book Storytelling With Our Students: Techniques for telling tales from around the world (DELTA Publishing 2014) and a host of publications on storytelling and drama in education. He offers training courses and coaching to storytelling teachers around the world and loves celebrating cultural diversity.

Haneen Jadallah: Gaza, Palestine is an English language teacher, a teacher trainer and a remote theatre specialist. She has a special interest and expertise in drama and language learning and intercultural remote theatre. She has developed her own framework for students to create their own plays and to perform them remotely to the outer world. She is passionate about connecting young people in Palestine with their peers around the world through intercultural links-ups and remote theatre. She is currently completing her MA in Drama and English Language Teaching at the university of Warwick, U.K.

Jackie was a teacher for over 30 years. She now spends her time storytelling and promoting her mother language (Scots) through community engagement activities and publishing children's books. She also helps organise a Language Cafe for those wishing to practice their English.

David, Haneen and Jackie's session:
Tell a Child in Gaza’s Tale: Sharing our Humanity

Everyone is invited to discover, respond to, learn and retell stories chosen, developed and told by children from Gaza. Appreciating such precious treasures freely given by young people whose hearts shine on brightly in the deepest darkness offers a chance for learners everywhere to deepen our compassion and thrive as members of our global human family, knowing that we all have meaningful stories to share.

If you're interested in taking part in this session, as well as several more, then you should register for our second edition of 'Storytelling in Education – Global Online Conference!

Learn about the power of storytelling and how to apply it in a learning environment to make your learners’ experience more creative, engaging, effective and to build communities of learning.

If you're a teacher or often work in the field of education and you want to learn more about applying storytelling, this is the conference for you.

Registration is open - get your ticket (pay what you can option, suggested: £30) at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/storytelling-in-education-tickets-920683859207

And don't worry if you have other commitments or if the time zone doesn't work for you! Everyone who registers for the conference will receive recordings of all the sessions - so you will be able to catch up with what you missed and re-watch your favourite parts!

We would like everyone to feel welcome and included, and to take part no matter where you are from on this planet. If Eventbrite doesn't work in your country, if you require a free ticket, or for any questions and queries, don't hesitate to contact us: [email protected] / [email protected]

We hope to see you there!

Let it be a tale🪁🌍🌎🌏
If I must Die by Refaat Alareer in Many Languages and Voices is going from strength to strength. Here is the incredibly beautiful new soundwave https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/866mzwpoand0ycka0n9jo/If-I-must-die-completed.wav?rlkey=momgzwg6mlw4k04zs31x73qm9&e=2&dl=0 which you can download (I have also made it into a YouTube video with slightly lower sound quality https://youtu.be/hWHw7cQoye8) made by the artist An Ting which creates a soundscape with the voices of fifty of the wonderful poem speakers (see collage photo created by Xie Rong) who have already shared the poem in so many different languages and dialects from around the world including languages spoken in India and Nepal; Latin American Spanish; Kiswahili, Iraqw, Afrikaans and Arabic from Africa; a number of languages spoken across Europe; Mandarin Chinese; Turkish; Farsi; Urdu; Baluchi; Scots, Doric, Welsh and English from the island where I live; Yiddish and Hebrew. Please play this soundwave freely for meditative reflection, at peace events, with learners in educational contexts and in all other ways that occur to you. I would love to know where and how and what the response is from you and others. Please share this soundwave widely.

Performance artist Xie Rong, whose versions in Chinese and English feature in the soundwave, says "You can follow this link to view my hologram performance in your own environment! I’m excited to see where you will take me! 🪁 https://vivaar.8thwall.app/rong-xie/ ". It's an wonderfully unearthly experience and highly recommended - it works well on my phone.
This poem is having more impact around the world than any other poem ever written. Will you also invite more people to contribute to this ever expanding If I Must Die - Refaat Alareer playlist in many languages and voices? https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj-mcWeMmSZx5E2Tw6c7SA4Kdk1421SJc&si=prdFWVr9uRvyg_0p

Poet, storyteller and teacher Refaat Alareer was killed along with close family in an airstrike on 6 December 2023. Already the invitation to recite his extraordinary poem If I Must Die in diverse languages and voices has made this growing playlist a testament to the power of the spoken word in calling for change.
Please share this widely and make a comment about us flying Dr Refaat Alareer's kite around the world
We send our appreciation and our condolences to his family.
