Computer Scientist’s Position

The Astrophysics and High Performance Computing' (AHPC) group of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of European University Cyprus carries out pioneering work in Astrophysics, Algorithms and Analysis, Network Science and Parallel and Distributed Computing. The group has a prestigious network of international collaborators.

The AHPC group seeks applicants for a Computer Scientist position with very good programming skills. The successful candidate will work on the project GRATOS (Graph Theoretical Tools for Sciences) – EXCELLENCE/1216/0207. The project founded by the Research & Innovation Foundation, under the program EXCELLENCE HUBS, Programmes for Research, Technological Development And Innovation, “RESTART 2016 – 2020”. GRATOS project aims to exploit graph-theoretical and network analysis methods and tools combined with specialized tools, application based, for providing efficient solutions for some important practical problems originating in diverse Sciences such as Neuroscience and Astrophysics.

The position is available for 1-2 years with the possibility of extension. The Gross Monthly Salary will be in the range 1,542 - 2,056 euro depending on qualifications and experience. Additional funding for travel and other research expenses is available for the position.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor`s Degree and/or postgraduate degree (M.Sc.) in Computer Science/Engineering or Mathematics or Electrical Engineering or Physics or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Very good programming skills.
• Good (computer science related) algorithmic and mathematical background.
• Prior experience with Graph Theory or Network Analysis will be considered an advantage.
• Previous research experience will be considered an advantage.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the team for the modeling and development of efficient solutions for clustering/classification problems with applications in Neuroscience and Astrophysics.

The proposed solutions will be implemented/evaluated in common programming languages such as C/C++ and Python utilizing visualization tools such as Cytoscape and igraph. Knowledge of the applications (Neuroscience or Astrophysics) is not required.
