Michael Twyman, 1934–2025 Michael Twyman died in October 2025, at 91, after more that six decades of presence in typographic education.

Grapholinguistics in the 21st century—Entangled Scripts, Cultures, Disciplines
G21C (Grapholinguistics in the 21st Century), also known as /gʁafematik/, is a biennial academic conference that convenes scholars from disciplines engaged with grapholinguistics and, more broadly, the systematic study of writing systems and their manifestation in written communication. The conference seeks to examine the current state of scholarship in this domain and to assess the significance of writing and writing systems within adjacent disciplines, including computer science, communication studies, linguistics, typography, psychology, and pedagogy. Of particular concern is the investigation of the expanding influence of Unicode and its implications for the future of literacy and textual practices in human societies.

IIID | Peter Simlinger Prize

Peter Simlinger Prize
Peter Simlinger founded IIID in 1986 and played a key role in the development of design in Austria and internationally.
Together with W***y de Majo, he made IIID an affiliate member of Icograda. As its president he changed the name of the organisation to designaustria.
Among many other pictograms he designed ISO 7001-TF006 for buses, which can travel in both directions and his wayfinding expertise guides passengers safely within the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and through the Vienna Airport.

Professor Neville Brody, who received an Honorary Doctorate from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Nicosia at the School's "Graduation Ceremony 2024", delivered a public speech entitled "Free me from Freedom" at UNIC's "Discovery Hall" on Wednesday 3 July.

The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is honoured to host the world-renowned graphic designer Neville Brody in a unique event to be held on 3 July at 18.30 in the main auditorium. Neville Brody, one of the most recognised designers of his generation, will share his knowledge and experience with the audience, providing an opportunity for inspiration and learning. The event at the University of Nicosia will provide participants with a unique opportunity to hear Neville Brody speak about his philosophy on design and life, critically examining the role of creativity, innovation, and new technologies in the modern world.
Neville Brody will also be the keynote speaker at the graduation ceremony of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Nicosia, where he will receive an Honorary Doctorate from the School. The ceremony will take place on 2 July at the University’s Open Amphitheatre.
