Making Wing Chun Practical

Our grappling syllabus consists of takedown and defensive movements that are found in the Wing Chun system and focuses on practical and realistic practices (sparring, position training).

Unlike arts like jiujitsu, sambo or methods like mma, wing chun is does not have many athletic movements, such as active hip throws or wrestling style pe*******on steps (knee). It focuses on the stand up game, sweeps, lifts, leg hooks and some defensive hip throws. If practiced correctly and realistically you can have a well rounded self defence system.

Flinch or Startle response training is a must in every Self Defence curriculum.
Responses trained should be simple and versatile in order to chain react furthermore.
Wing Chun is full of movements like these, when trained correctly they become useful, when trained like a choreography they stay at the level of a mindful art.

For the last 6 years I have been thinking and utilising wing chun as a grappling art with the accompaniment of striking instead of mainly striking:
chi sau, trapping, the wooden dummy etc.

Last year I had the honour to meet with sifu Kevin and got to know his view on Wing Chun as well. Very glad to find out he shares this idea as well.
