So after 15 years of Zumba in my life, almost 10 years as an instructor, I have decided to focus my energy and passion in a different direction. I was blessed with amazing classes full of adults and children for a few years leading up to the pandemic. During the pandemic, I stopped teaching and sent as many students to my fellow ZINs whose only source of income was Zumba as I was blessed to have a job and paycheck throughout those years.

My love for dance will never stop. But the ongoing problems in Cyprus regarding the non-acknowledgement of our professional licenses by the Cyprus Athletics Organisation (KOA) based on the archaic 1995 law which forbids any fitness professional without a University Degree in Sports Science/Medicine to teach any form of fitness is the final straw for me.

I have two degrees (BA, MBA) yet I cannot teach a group of adults a few dance steps which are pre-choreographed by a huge organisation in the USA which has millions of students and thousands of students worldwide because our MPs can't see the benefit of updating the law and following the European directive for the recognition of professional qualifications. This is a consolidated system of mutual recognition and provides for automatic recognition for a limited number of professions based on harmonised minimum training requirements (sectoral professions), a general system for the recognition of evidence of training and automatic recognition of professional experience. My trainings for the past 10 years have been in vain as KOA does not recognise these and instead labels me as "illegal" to provide my services in this field.

I do not have the energy to deal with incompetent respresentatives on this matter, and will not be wasting any more time on the matter.

I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years.
Thank you for your wonderful smiles and amazing energy.

I hope our classes were a refuge to you and a source of inspiration.

I love you all and hope we meet up on another dance floor soon.

Love always,
Joanna Hadjidamianou
