Congratulations to Cyprus Music Archive's director, Dr Nicoletta Demetriou, for winning a Europa Nostra Grand Prix in the Research category, for her long-term ethnographic project The Cypriot Fiddler.

For over 15 years, The Cypriot Fiddler has recorded the life stories of traditional musicians on both sides of the Cypriot divide. The project has resulted in a book, a documentary, and an open-access website (link in comments). The Cypriot Fiddler archive has been donated to Cyprus Music Archive for digitisation and safekeeping, and will become part of our online collections.

As Dr Demetriou has publicly stated, the Grand Prix award (worth €10.000) will go to Cyprus Music Archive, in order to support and enrich its large-scale digitisation programme.

Το μάθημα "Κυπριακή Εθνογραφία 101: The Case Studies" του Αρχείο Κυπριακής Μουσικής - Cyprus Music Archive έκλεισε σήμερα με τον καλύτερο τρόπο: με ένα εργαστήρι για τις γειτονιές της Λευκωσίας και τις ιστορίες τους, στους δρόμους της παλιάς πόλης.

Η διευθύντρια του Αρχείο Κυπριακής Μουσικής - Cyprus Music Archive, Δρ Nicoletta Demetriou, βρέθηκε χθες στις Βρυξέλλες για μια πρώτη παρουσίαση του ντοκιμαντέρ «Η ηχώ της Κύπρου», παραγωγής του Γραφείο Τύπου και Πληροφοριών - Press and Information Office. Μετά την παρουσίαση του ντοκιμαντέρ, η Δρ Δημητρίου έδωσε διάλεξη με θέμα την προφορική ανταγωνιστική ποίηση στην Κύπρο και τη Μεσόγειο. Κατά τη διάρκεια της εκδήλωσης έγινε επίσης απονομή τιμητικού διπλώματος από τη γενική γραμματέα της Europa Nostra, κ. Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic, για το ερευνητικό έργο της Δρος Δημητρίου Ο Κύπριος Βιολάρης / The Cypriot Fiddler.

Το Αρχείο Κυπριακής Μουσικής θα βρίσκεται σήμερα και αύριο στις Βρυξέλλες, για παρουσίαση του έργου του στο Ευρωπαϊκό Συμβούλιο και στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση, στο πλαίσιο της Ημέρας της Ευρώπης.

Η εκδήλωση "Τραγούδια και ιστορίες της άνοιξης", που πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Hambis Municipal Printmaking Museum στις 21 Μαρτίου, εντάσσεται στο πλαίσιο ευρύτερης δράσης του Αρχείο Κυπριακής Μουσικής - Cyprus Music Archive, με τίτλο "Τραγούδια και παραμύθια στο μουσείο". Συνδιοργανωτής της δράσης είναι το Δημοτικό Μουσείο Χαρακτικής Χαμπή, με συνεργάτη το Κέντρο Επιστημονικών Ερευνών. Η δράση στηρίζεται οικονομικά από το Υφυπουργείο Πολιτισμού - Deputy Ministry of Culture CY.
