🌍💧 Join the ESDC Pilot Course on Hydrodiplomacy!

Don’t miss the opportunity to participate in the ESDC pilot Course: “Hydrodiplomacy: a tool for climate and environmental resilience, peace, and security” taking place in Nicosia, Cyprus, from 19-23 October 2026.

This is a landmark event organized by The Cyprus Security and Defence Academy and The Cyprus Institute, in cooperation with the University of Balamand - UOB and its Climate Diplomacy & Sustainable Peace Hub, under the auspices of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC).

This 5-day course (including an e-learning component and residential training) explores the critical role of water security in the context of climate change, environmental degradation, and international security. It focuses on how hydrodiplomacy can contribute to conflict prevention, environmental peacebuilding, and regional cooperation.

The course aims to strengthen capacities of EU and international practitioners working on climate security, resilience, and sustainable development, while fostering collaboration and policy-relevant dialogue.

📣Celebrating the milestone of the successful completion of the Joint PhD program between The Cyprus Institute (CyI) and National Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA)!

On July 9th Konstantina Koutroumanou Kontosi, successfully defended her thesis as a PhD candidate in the Joint PhD program between CyI and the NKUA under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Panos Hadjinicolaou at the CyI and Prof. Constantinos Cartalis at NKUA. 🎓

This achievement reflects the strength of international collaboration in doctoral education, bringing together leading scientists from both institutions, fostering an enriching research environment, and advancing academic excellence. It also highlights the value of joint doctoral programs in supporting innovative research while further enhancing the academic experience of doctoral students.

This milestone is especially significant as it represents the first joint PhD degree awarded under the partnership between the CyI and NKUA, laying a strong foundation for future collaborations, and we look forward to seeing more doctoral candidates benefit from this collaborative model.
