ARC Department of Architecture,University of Nicosia Additional facilities include a computer
lab, printer room, library, workshop, classrooms, faculty offices, study rooms, and
administrative rooms.

The Architecture Program at University of Nicosia offers a Professional Diploma (DipArch) that is accredited by ETEK (Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus) as well as a Bachelors of Architecture. THE ARCHITECTURE RESEARCH CENTER [ARC]
In Fall 2010, the Department of Architecture moved into new facilities that have been
designed specifically to fulfil the needs of the program. The new buildin

g, a converted
shoe factory, will allows faculty and students to work together and continue to build the
architectural program according to our mission statement. The architecture office of
Associate Professor Yiorgos Hadjichristou (Yiorgos Hadjichristou, Petros Konstantinou,
Veronika Antoniou, Teigas Joao, internal collaborators: Ioanna Iosef, Michalis
Thrasyvoulou and Nasios Varnava) and Alessandra Swiny as an external advisor designed
the building, which includes: ten main studio spaces (two per year), an entrance
foyer, and a central amphitheatre. All are designed to be easily converted into one expansive
open-plan space for special events, such as final year exhibitions, major public
lectures, large workshops, and recreational events. There is also a cafeteria, a student lounge, and a rooftop terrace. The [ARC] Labs are equipped with cutting edge hardware and software for both students
and faculty. The use of the Labs is also part of several courses and workshops
within the architectural and interior programs such as the Architecture and Interior
Studios, the Digital Design Courses and the Architectural Catalysts. The computer lab (C-LAB) features newly acquired machines with a wide range of
digital design software including tools for 2D drafting, 3D and parametric modelling,
animation, rendering and image processing. The [ARC] Digital Fabrication Lab
(F-LAB) hosts a laser cutting machine, a CNC milling machine and a 3D printer, which
individual students or groups of students can use to produce architectural models
and prototypes on their request. From October 2014 a Wood workshop Lab (W-LAB)
will start operating, significantly expanding the creative possibilities for students and
faculty. The W-Lab will enable the use of a large series of Hand tools and Power Tools. All laboratories are well supervised and maintained by an experienced support team. Regular
inductions are organized to assist the students and faculty with the use of the labs.

Second-year students from the Department of Architecture at the University of Nicosia won most of the prizes and honorable mentions in the international architecture competition, “Community Urban Farm”. The students competed against architects, designers, planners, and students from all five years of study at some of the world’s leading universities.

Honorable Mention: Anthi Batsouli, Kleopatra Prodromou, Dora Michael, Lynn Danaf

The competition was a major component of the second-year spring semester studio, which led to the development of the “Community Home Grown” project located in Gaza. It aimed to address the essential elements of building a community: water and harvesting. Alongside the genocide, ecocide in Gaza has damaged the quality of water and soil, threatening cultivation and survival. Enriched by a community kitchen and activities centered around cultivation, the project gradually and organically developed into a cultural hub, evolving over time while drawing on ideas, rituals, knowledge, shared ownership, and social cohesion for the Palestinian community.

The studio was taught by Angela Kyriacou Petrou, Afra Omidi, Teresa Tourvas and Yiorgos Hadjichristou.”
