Aging is often understood through the diseases that emerge later in life. Today, new advances in AI, genomics and biomarker science are opening the possibility of identifying risk much earlier and acting before disease takes hold.

We are honoured to welcome Professor Eric Topol, American cardiologist, scientist, author and Executive Vice-President of Scripps Research, for the next event of the Evolve Lecture Series:

"Extending our Healthspan: Preventing the Major Age-Related Diseases"

Professor Topol will explore how comprehensive individual data profiles, including genomics, organ clocks, biomarkers and multimodal AI, can help assess risk and guide more precise interventions. He will also review a new trial aimed at preventing Alzheimer's disease, and reflect on what these developments could mean for the future of preventive medicine and healthy aging.

📢 UNIC Athens Medical School student Vasileios Kassos was part of the award-winning team that secured First Prize at the LifeHack Athens Hackathon 2026, held within the Panathenea Festival, one of Greece’s leading events for science and technology.

The team was recognised for its project, ‘Designing Hepatic Patients Triage’, an innovative proposal aimed at improving clinical decision-making in healthcare. In addition to the top prize, the team received a three-month internship opportunity at Dyania Headquarters in New Jersey, USA, as well as the chance to present its idea to a group of international investors.

📢 For the past two months, five students from Örebro University in Sweden called Cyprus their home, completing part of their clinical training in Limassol. During this time, they gained valuable insight into a new healthcare environment while also embracing life on the island and its local culture.

Emma Ling, Louisa Johansson, Ingrid Holmquist, Thea Ingvarsson and Emma Johansson participated in this exchange through the NEOLAiA European University Alliance, which gives students the opportunity to undertake part of their studies at partner universities across Europe. Their placement in Cyprus was made possible through the collaboration between UNIC and Örebro University within the Alliance.

Last Wednesday, 27 May 2026, we celebrated a special milestone for our medical students as they took an important step on their journey to becoming doctors.

The White Coat Ceremony marks the transition from classroom learning to clinical training, symbolising a commitment to professionalism, compassion, and patient-centred care. Surrounded by faculty and staff, family, and friends, students proudly received their white coats and prepared to begin clinical placements in healthcare settings across Cyprus and around the world.

Congratulations to all our future doctors as they continue their journey of learning, service, and care.
