From One Ruin to Another: A Dialogue Between the House of Fourni and Markos’ Farm on Delos – EFA 10/12/2024

🏺 Connecting Past and Present on Delos 🌿

What happens when two projects meet on Delos?

Through the archaeological study of the House of Fourni and the participatory restoration of the Markos farmhouse using traditional techniques, researchers explore how ancient and vernacular material knowledge intersect. By placing these two buildings in dialogue with their natural surroundings, the landscape itself emerges as a key participant in the story of habitation.

Discover how this integrated approach sheds light on local building traditions, their adaptation to the Cyclades’ unique environment, and the evolving relationship between Delos’s ancient and recent landscapes.

The origin of the Protogeometric style in northern Greece and its relevance for the absolute chronology of the Early Iron Age | Antiquity | Cambridge Core 30/11/2024

🕰 Bridging Chronological Gaps in Early Iron Age Greece 🏺

How do absolute dating methods reshape our understanding of traditional archaeological chronologies?

A recent study explores the significance of a Macedonian vase, decorated with compass-drawn concentric circles, found in a Late Bronze Age context at ancient Eleon, Boeotia. The authors argue that this vessel provides a crucial chronological anchor, supporting the 12th-century BC emergence of the Protogeometric style in central Macedonia.

This research offers a new model for the indigenous development and spread of the Macedonian Protogeometric style—reshaping our understanding of Early Iron Age Greece.
