Hydro-Aromatic Plants Group CUT

It was a great honor that 2 members of Hydro-Aromatic Plants Group CUT were invited at The World Young Scientist Summit (WYSS) under the theme of “Converging the World’s Talents, Creating a Better Future,” and specific topic being “Youth Innovation: Fostering New Quality Productive Forces,” WYSS2024, in Wenzhou, China on November 15-17, 2024.
The 2 members of the Hydro Aromatic Plants group, Cyprus University of Technology, associate professor Dr Nikos Tzortzakis (Gropu Leader) and Dr Chrysargyris Antonis were invited as special guests (VIP) by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as PANDA members to participate at the WYSS2024. This event had more than 6000 participants and 300 international special guests. Both Dr Nikos Tzortzakis and Dr Antonios Chrysargyris gave interviews to the Chinese media regarding the Science and Sustainable Environment at the WYSS2024 forum and had the chance to interact with young scientists.
It was a great experience, meeting several Nobelists such as Prof Hartmut Michel, (Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1988), who gave a plenary talk and updates on research global ‘’My route to the Nobel Prize’’.
Additionally, it was an amazing experience to visit the WYSS's Great Health Forum and FOX ESS energy Industry Forum, one of the largest worldwide units. Last but not least we had the opportunity to get the Chinese very warm welcoming and culture.
The World Young Scientist Summit (WYSS) is an international sci-tech exchange platform for young people, sponsored by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and The People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, and co-organized by World Association of Young Scientists (preparatory), Organization and Personnel Department of CAST, Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, and Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government.

Two members of the Hydro-Aromatic Plants Group CUT, group leader Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikos Tzortzakis and Dr. Chrysargyris Antonis had the honor to be invited for a Scientific visit to the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIMM), in Shanghai, China.
That was a great experience, since they had the chance to visit the air space simulators, the ISMM laboratories, the Chinese National Compounds Library, with the largest collection/library with more than 2.2 million compounds/isolations, and of course experiencing the Chinese warm welcoming and hospitality and culture, hosted by Prof. Dr. Yang Ye.

Θα θέλαμε να σας προσκαλέσουμε στην τελική συνάντηση του έργου Opti-AromaQ (Project EXCELLENCE/0421/0299), στο πλαίσιο της οποίας θα διεξαχθεί ημερίδα (workshop) με τίτλο «Προώθηση θρεπτικής και εμπορικής αξίας των φαρμακευτικών και αρωματικών φυτών». Η ημερίδα θα πραγματοποιηθεί στις εγκαταστάσεις του Τεχνολογικού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου (ΤΕΠΑΚ), στο Αμφιθέατρο ΙΙ του κτηρίου Τ. Παπαδόπουλος, την Παρασκευή 07 Ιουνίου 2024 και ώρα 09:00-15:00.

Το έργο χρηματοδοτείται μέσω των Προγραμμάτων EXCELLENCΕ του Ιδρύματος Έρευνας και Καινοτομίας (ΙΔΕΚ) και συμμετέχουν το Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (συντονιστής του έργου), το Ευρωπαϊκό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, η εταιρία Anagyris και η Αναπτυξιακή Εταιρία Λεμεσού.

Σκοπός της συνάντησης είναι η παρουσίαση των αποτελεσμάτων του έργου από τους εταίρους, ενώ παράλληλα θα υπάρχει μια σειρά από ομιλίες σχετικές με την καλλιέργεια, αξία και ιδιότητες των φαρμακευτικών και αρωματικών φυτών, από εξειδικευμένους ερευνητές.

Μετά το τέλος της ημερίδας θα ακολουθήσει πρακτική επίδειξη χρήσης και εφαρμογής των αιθέριων ελαίων (Training School: Essential oils properties and usages).

Our collective research on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants from the Cypriot flora, including endemic species, has just been published. The article is focused on the evaluation of the biological properties and the phytochemical profile of a series of MAP species.
