Green Key Appoints Audit Independer Group as Its New Independent Certification Body
Dear Green Key Members,
We are pleased to inform you that Green Key has appointed Audit Independer Group as the Programme’s new independent Certification Body.
This development represents an important step in further strengthening Green Key’s certification system. It will ensure that the Programme continues to meet the highest standards of independence, transparency and programme integrity, while adapting to the evolving regulatory and legislative landscape.
From 1 October 2026, Audit Independer Group will be responsible for managing Green Key’s independent certification process. Its responsibilities will include:
Coordinating and assigning audits.
Assessing submitted application documents and audit reports.
Making final certification decisions.
Administering certifications.
Coordinating the approval, training and appointment of auditors.
The Foundation for Environmental Education – FEE will continue to own and develop the Green Key Programme. It will also continue to provide supporting resources and training materials and will remain the primary point of contact for certified establishments through its international network of National Operators.
For certified establishments, the transition has been designed to be as smooth as possible. Existing certification schedules will continue as planned, while CYMEPA, as the National Operator of Green Key in Cyprus, will remain your primary point of contact throughout the process.
The key points of the transition are as follows:
Certification activities will continue under the new Certification Body from 1 October 2026.
Existing auditors who meet the relevant requirements will continue to play an important role in the Programme.
The transition has been carefully planned to minimise any disruption or additional burden for certified establishments.
Certification data will be shared with the new Certification Body to ensure the appropriate monitoring of certifications and compliance with the latest legislative requirements. For this purpose, the updated Green Key Agreement is attached to this announcement.
CYMEPA, as the National Operator of Green Key in Cyprus, will remain the primary point of contact for all Green Key Members. In countries where there is no National Operator, Green Key International will continue to fulfil this role.
