New publication: Our CLOTHO Lab has published a scoping review on the metabolomic profile of circadian disrupted night shift working populations

Night shift work (NSW) has been known for its linkage with circadian disruption, while the NSW carcinogenic potential is well documented.

However, there has been little research on the NSW-associated biological pathways and small molecules that may be implicated with the early stages of carcinogenicity.

Metabolomics platforms are novel exposomics tools that act as intermediate biological layers of information linking NSW schedules with the downstream endogenous response in humans.

To this extent, we conducted a scoping review to answer the question: how does NSW impact the endogenous human metabolome using metabolomics tools?

🔎 Preventive Growth and Development Assessment of Children - What do the experts at the CHILDREN_FIRST Observatory measure❓

​The annual preventive assessment over a 6-year period (Primary school) provides information on which environmental exposures should be monitored and when (age range), while also focusing on early-stage disease indicators (biomarkers of oxidative stress/damage and inflammation, metabolites, etc.) 🎯

Στο πλαίσιο του Κυπριακού Παρατηρητηρίου για την Υγεία και το Περιβάλλον των Παιδιών (CHILDREN_FIRST), η ερευνητική μας ομάδα πραγματοποίησε επισκέψεις σε 22 δημοτικά σχολεία σε ολόκληρη την Κύπρο, όπου περισσότερα από 350 παιδιά συμμετείχαν στις ετήσιες αξιολογήσεις της υγείας και του περιβάλλοντός τους.

As part of the Cypriot Children's Health and Environment Observatory (CHILDREN_FIRST), our research team travelled across Cyprus to visit 22 primary schools, where more than 350 children participated in our annual health and environmental assessments. These visits help us better understand how children's everyday environments influence their health and development.

📢 The Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health is a signatory of the European Declaration on Heat and Health.

With more than 80 organizations across Europe we want to highlight that
June 2026 was the hottest June ever recorded in Western Europe and we must take immidiate actions. 🌡🇪🇺

Several thousand excess deaths were registered in the peak heatwave week alone and the toll is still rising, alongside wildfires and crop losses across the continent.

The European Commission is now preparing the European Climate Resilience Framework, due for adoption at the end of 2026. It will decide whether this summer finally leads to binding obligations or to another strategy without consequence.

That is why the European Regional Hub of the Planetary Health Alliance and more than 80 organisations including us have signed the European Declaration on Heat and Health. 🤝
