As part of the Access for All Festival, join us in Limassol on September 13 for a special CurioCity walk.

CurioCity isn't your typical guided city walk. It's a collective exploration; a shared adventure where we slow down, tune into our senses, and notice the little things that shape urban well-being.
In this special edition of the CurioCity walk, led by OPU Collective in collaboration with the U-care project, we will explore the Limassol Old Port Neighbourhood and talk about how spatial inequality, accessibility, and urban health shape our everyday experience of the city.

Can you spot the barriers that most miss?

Join the Urban Investigation Lab and learn how to identify accessibility barriers, explore the principles of Universal Design, and develop ideas for more inclusive public spaces in Limassol.

If you're aged 18 - 35 and interested in accessibility, inclusive urban planning, or creating more welcoming cities for everyone, this two-day workshop is for you.

Over two days, you'll:
- Learn about Universal Design
- Investigate accessibility barriers in Limassol's public spaces
- Develop ideas for more accessible urban environments
- Meet like-minded people who care about creating positive change in their communities

No background in architecture, design or urban planning is required – just curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to see the city from a new perspective.

RESET, together with Unicops - Universal CBRNE Safety Systems for Higher Education and Virtuous, organised the EU Conference on Public Space Security and Protection, creating an important platform for dialogue on one of the most pressing challenges of our time:

How do we ensure that our public spaces remain safe, open and resilient?

The conference brought together 140+ policymakers, practitioners, researchers, and experts from across Europe to exchange experiences, explore emerging challenges, and share practical approaches and innovative solutions to strengthen prevention, preparedness, and cooperation.

We are proud to have facilitated these meaningful discussions and grateful to everyone who contributed to making this event a success.

A special thank you to the organisations and institutions that honoured us with their presence and active participation, including:
• The Cyprus Police Academy, the Special Antiterrorist Squad and the Crime Prevention Unit;
• The Embassies of China, Japan, Greece and Hungary;
• The Ministry of Health, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Culture;
• Representatives of Social Welfare Services and Cyprus Civil Defence.

The conference was further enriched by the valuable contributions of distinguished experts who shared their knowledge and experience in the field. Our sincere thanks to:
• Edoardo Mattiello and Alessandro Marani (QSINT), for leading an exercise on understanding terrorist strategies and strengthening the protection of public spaces with the support of Uniwersytet Łódzki, ISEM Institute and Diakonija Latvijā - LELB Diakonijas centrs.
• Dr. Zenonas Tziarras, our keynote speaker, for his insights on regional instability and resilience;
• Maksymilian Stela (The Biohazard Prevention Centre), for sharing his expertise in chemical warfare agent detection and CBRN response;
• Lara Raggi (Zanasi & Partners), for her presentation on behaviours and patterns of lone-actor terrorism;
• Alkis Kakoulis (Αστυνομία Κύπρου), for providing operational perspectives and sharing his experience from the field;
• Pedro Liberado (IPS_Innovative Prison Systems), for his extensive expertise on organised crime.

We also extend our appreciation to the Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, and the Commissioner for the Citizen, Panayiotis Palates, whose participation reflected the growing institutional recognition of the security challenges facing European cities.

Finally, thank you to all participating organisations and attendees whose contributions enriched the discussions and outcomes of this conference.

Upcoming: EU Conference on Public Space Security and Protection 2026.

As threats affecting public spaces continue to evolve, strengthening prevention, preparedness, and response capacities across Europe becomes increasingly important.

The EU Conference on Public Space Security and Protection 2026 will bring together experts and stakeholders to explore innovative approaches to security, crisis response, resilience, and cross-sector cooperation.

What to expect:
• Hybrid and CBRNE threats affecting public spaces
• Emergency response and cross-sector coordination
• Operational insights and case studies on emerging security threats
• European cooperation on prevention, protection, and response

The programme will feature expert panel discussions, operational perspectives, and a tabletop exercise focused on strengthening the protection of public spaces.

Does democracy still exist beyond the ballot?

Democracy is often described as “power to the people.” Lately, it looks far closer to power to the 1%.

Pluralism is eroding. Autocratic tendencies are being normalised. Rights are becoming conditional.

We are watching people in power, and their loyal enablers, fall in line while another piece of democratic substance is quietly dismantled. So the question is, does democracy still exist in substance, or only in name?

The EU Conference on Public Space Security and Protection 2026 brings together European expertise and national authorities in a focused dialogue on the future of public space security.

Organized by the partners of the UNICOPS - CBRNE Protection for Higher Education Institutions and Virtuous Projects, two EU initiatives funded under the Internal Security Fund, the conference reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen safety across Europe through the development of holistic frameworks for prevention, protection, and response in public spaces.

More than 60 partners across Europe - including security experts, policymakers, law enforcement agencies, researchers, religious representatives, and industry innovators - will gather in Cyprus to exchange operational insights and engage directly with national authorities and strategic stakeholders.

This conference offers a unique opportunity to connect European-level research and policy development with practical, on-the-ground security realities.
