🎉 ENGINEER Project – Final Event (Day 1) 🎉
The ENGINEER project reached its successful conclusion with a Final Event hosted by Cyprus University of Technology / Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου at POED, Nicosia. The day brought together over 30 experts and stakeholders from the cultural heritage and research community, celebrating collaboration and innovation.
💬 Inspiring interventions were delivered by Ms. Demetra Aristotelous (Archaeological Officer, Τμήμα Αρχαιοτήτων Κύπρου/ Department of Antiquities Cyprus), Ms. Marsia Trillidou (Ίδρυμα Έρευνας και Καινοτομίας/ Research and Innovation Foundation), and Mr. Chrysanthos Pissarides (President of ICOMOS Cyprus).
🔬 Scientific highlights included presentations from Dr. Athos Agapiou (CUT, Coordinator), Prof. Dimitrios Skarlatos (CUT), and Dr. Nicholas Kyriakides (CUT), showcasing advances in 3D recording, structural modeling, and heritage conservation.
Further contributions enriched the program, including:
📍 Geoinformatics in service of Capacity Building and Collaboration: a story from an Advanced Partner – Prof. Branka Cuca, Associate Professor, Politecnico di Milano
🧪 Advanced materials analysis for condition assessment and conservation planning, from macro to micro scales – Dr. Alice Tavares Costa, Architect/Researcher, CICECO-Aveiro Institute of Materials, Universidade de Aveiro
💻 Digital Innovation Activities in Cultural Heritage – Dr. Kyriacos Themistocleous, Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence (ECoE)
🏛️ Digital interfaces for accessing historical transformations of urban heritage-scapes – Dr. Georgios Artopoulos, STARC, The Cyprus Institute
🌍 A standout moment was the expert panel moderated by Assoc. Prof. Branka Cuca (Politecnico di Milano) with Prof. Dina D’Ayala (UCL, UNESCO Chair in Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience
Engineering), Prof. Dr. Nicola Masini (CNR, Deputy Director of ISPC CNR Istituto di Scienze del Patrimonio Culturale), Dr. Marinos Ioannides (CUT, Director Unesco Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage), and Dr. Athos Agapiou, addressing critical themes such as climate change, digital heritage, and future research synergies.
⚙️ The day also featured the CONNECTING project Technical Equipment Demonstration, giving participants a hands-on look at cutting-edge technologies supporting heritage preservation.
