As AI takes on a bigger role in optical network optimisation, fairness and uncertainty are emerging as key challenges, and this was a central theme at the Huawei Lavender Summit 2026 – Optics, Illuminating the AI Era, held in Cannes, France, on 11–12 June 2026.

Tania Panayiotou, Senior Research Associate at the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence, was an invited speaker at this exclusive event, presenting "Beyond AI Efficiency: Fairness and Uncertainty in AI-Driven Optical Networks", which explored these challenges in AI-driven optical network optimisation, particularly in disaggregated and multi-operator environments.

Thank you to Huawei Technologies France R&D Centers and the organising committee for the invitation and the opportunity to share KIOS research with the international community.

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) has the potential to revolutionise how we transport goods, respond to emergencies, and monitor our landscapes — particularly in the Southeast Mediterranean region, where specific challenges call for innovative solutions.

The EUSOME Excellence Hub, a 4-year European project working to make this vision a reality, brought its consortium together on 11–12 June 2026 for a Plenary Meeting hosted by KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence at the Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου | University Of Cyprus.

Over two days, representatives from across the consortium had the opportunity to discuss achievements to date and align on next steps toward establishing AAM as an integral part of the transportation landscape in Southeast Europe.

Advanced 6G networks have the potential to enable scalable smart grid services that make our power grids greener — helping them automatically absorb more clean energy without risking blackouts.

On 11 June, the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence hosted a Trial Demonstration of a 6G-enabled and AI-driven wide area monitoring and control service, developed as part of the 6G-Versus Project, showcasing exactly this on real hardware.

The live demonstration utilised two KIOS CoE testbeds — the Power System Testbed and the 5G-Telecommunication Testbed — complemented by an ML-Ops Framework for live AI data analytics.

The event brought together key energy sector stakeholders, including representatives from Electricity Authority of Cyprus, Transmission System Operator - Cyprus, and RES stakeholders from Cyprus and Bulgaria.

Cyprus Police DiGiPOL platform is now live!

Accessible via GOV.CY, the platform gives citizens access to more than 30 police services entirely online, including the issuance of criminal record certificates, the provision of police reports, and the submission of declarations for lost identity cards — with no physical presence required.

A key partner in this initiative, KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence at the Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου | University Of Cyprus contributed the technical expertise behind the platform's development, while NetU Group was responsible for its implementation.

DiGiPOL strengthens efficiency, transparency, and citizen service — and marks a significant step forward for digital governance in Cyprus.
