Warmest congratulations to our PhD student Muhammad Shahid Siddiqui for successfully defending his thesis!
Shahid's thesis addresses the challenge of automatically designing optimal neural network architectures for a given machine learning task.
His work develops Neural Architecture Search (NAS) frameworks that go beyond standard benchmarks, demonstrating strong generalization and transferability to unseen datasets and real-world applications.
Well done!

KIOS's participation in the 48th IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Conference (EMBC 2026) in Toronto, Canada — alongside 2,500 attendees from over 80 countries — reflects exactly the kind of impact KIOS strives for: using intelligent systems and data-driven engineering to improve health outcomes for all.
KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence was represented by Dr. Kosmia Loizidou Venekti, Post-Doctoral Researcher, Zacharias Komodromos, Data Analyst, and Prof. Panayiotis Kolios.
Kosmia presented research showing how Temporal Subtraction combined with Machine Learning can significantly improve the prediction of breast cancer subtype, invasiveness, and tumor grade from sequential mammograms — a promising step toward more accurate, personalized breast cancer diagnostics.
Zacharias presented work exploring whether incorporating data from multiple European regions can improve national COVID-19 forecasting performance, highlighting the value of cross-border data collaboration in public health.
