New Book Chapter in Progress: Advancing Inclusive and Learner-Centred Digital Education

The SEIT Lab is currently working on our second book chapter developed within the UA-Talent-UP Project, exploring how digital learning environments can be designed to be more inclusive, accessible, and responsive to diverse learner needs. The chapter, titled "Inclusive and Learner-Centred MOOC Design: Accessibility and Personalization in the UA-Talent-UP Platform", examines the innovative MOOC platform developed by the University of Cyprus.

The chapter investigates how accessibility and personalization can be embedded as core design principles in online learning systems, drawing on frameworks such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL), learner-centred pedagogy, learning analytics, and adaptive learning technologies. It highlights approaches that support flexible learning pathways, multimodal content delivery, adaptive assessment, and accessibility-by-design features that help meet the needs of diverse learner populations.

Combining conceptual analysis with empirical evidence from platform implementation, the research aims to contribute practical insights for educators, instructional designers, higher education institutions, and policymakers seeking to develop more equitable and learner-focused digital learning environments.

This forthcoming contribution reflects the UA-Talent-UP commitment to enhancing the quality, inclusiveness, and accessibility of higher education through innovative digital solutions and scalable learning opportunities.

Work on our forthcoming book chapter, "An Open-Source Competency-Based MOOC Ecosystem for Entrepreneurship and Global Competence Development: Insights from the UA-Talent-UP Project" is underway.
The chapter presents the design and implementation of the UA-Talent-UP MOOC platform, an open-source digital learning ecosystem developed by the SEIT Lab, that combines competency-based education, self-assessment, adaptive learning pathways, learning analytics, gamification, and micro-credentials to support the development of entrepreneurial and global competences in higher education.
The chapter highlights lessons learned and recommendations for the future of learner-centred, skills-oriented digital learning environments.

πŸ“š UA-Talent-UP: Two Book Chapters Underway!

The University of Cyprus (SEIT Lab) is contributing two chapters to an upcoming edited volume, sharing the design, architecture, and impact of the MOOC platform developed for the UA-Talent-UP Erasmus+ project.

Chapter 1 – An Open-Source Modular MOOC Architecture for Competency-Based Learning, Gamification, and Micro-Credentialing in Higher Education
A methodological and practical chapter presenting the platform as a transferable reference model, covering its modular architecture, competency-to-module mapping, gamification mechanisms, and integration with the EntreComp and Global Competence Framework. It also unpacks implementation challenges, from scalability to cross-institutional deployment, offering concrete guidelines for other institutions building similar systems.

Chapter 2 – Inclusive and Learner-Centred MOOC Design: Accessibility and Personalization in the UA-Talent-UP Platform
A conceptual and empirical chapter examining how accessibility and personalization are embedded as core architectural principles rather than add-ons. Drawing on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and learner-centred pedagogy, it presents empirical findings from learner interaction data and usability feedback, proposing a conceptual model linking pedagogical design, system architecture, and analytics-driven feedback loops.
Both chapters position the UA-Talent-UP MOOC platform as a practical case study for competency-based, inclusive, and scalable digital learning, offering actionable insights for educators, instructional designers, and policymakers.

✨ The interactive platform of our Erasmus+ project EmTech4HE is finalized!

πŸ€– Most of us have already been exposed to the digital advances of AI and XR. Using those modern engineering marvels is one thing, but understanding what they do, how they do it, how to work with them, how to make the most out of them and what to look out for is not always as straightforward as it seems

🧠 Through our open eLearning system, learners can educate themselves through 18 different modules about the benefits and innovations AI & XR bring to education through a series of videos, written chapters, infographics, self-assessments and quizzes!

πŸŽ–οΈCollect different badges as you progress through the course, and obtain a personalized, final certificate at the end!

πŸ‘‰ The platform is available is available in 5 different languages, so why not check it out yourself? Heat to emtech4he.cs.ucy.ac.cy and begin your AI & XR journey now!

This project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union
