Development of rock climbing is an activity that requires lots of time of volunteers, but it would not be possible without support in the form of materials. A complication is the tropical sea climate, where corrosion occurs faster, requiring high quality (and therefore expensive) bolts. Today, we would like to highlight the Dutch mountaineering association NKBV (Nederlandse Klim en Bergsport Vereniging), who are structurally supporting the development of rock climbing on Curacao, by covering finances for high quality bolts and glue.

We're running an advanced level (multi pitch lead climbing) course on 22 and 23 July. On both Saturday and Sunday, there will be a morning and an afternoon training session. There are still a few seats available!

This course is aimed at climbers who lead single pitch routes, who want to learn how to lead climb multi pitch (long routes). Although the opportunities for such climbing on Curacao are limited (the Kabrietenberg climbing area), the ability to lead climb multi pitch can be very useful when going on climbing trips abroad, or if you want to pick up alpine rock climbing.

To join this course, you must be able to lead climb single pitch. To get optimal results, you should be able to lead French 5b confidently.

One of our most popular courses is the basic level climbing course. During this course, the participants learn the basic of climbing: belaying, lowering, partner check, basic climbing technique, knowledge of equipment and communication. Essential for everyone who wants to enter the wonderful world of climbing to enjoy all the wonderful experiences it has to offer! Previous knowledge or experience is not required to join.

To make the development of climbing possible in the public domain, there needs to be consultation with land owners and land managers. On Curacao we are lucky to have Stichting Uniek Curacao who view climbing favorably.

Creating a new climbing area in the public domain is a wonderful experience. Using a complex skillset to create something new that can be enjoyed by anyone... if you ask me what I love more - climbing or bolting - it's hard to answer that question.
