English Access Scholarship Program - Cabo Verde

🇺🇸 On April 25th, the students learned about Earth Day- celebrated on April 22nd- understanding its importance and history, which officially began in 1970.
After the theoretical part, the students applied what they learned by creating a poster. In their work, they included important messages such as planting more trees, reducing, reusing and recycling, saving water, protecting animals, and stopping pollution. This activity helped develop not only their creativity but also their sense of environmental responsibility and citizenship.
The Earth is in our hands—what we do today shapes the world of tomorrow.

🇨🇻 No dia 25 de abril os alunos aprenderam sobre o Dia da Terra - celebrado a 22 de abril - compreendendo a sua importância e história, que começou oficialmente em 1970.
Após a parte teórica, os alunos aplicaram o que aprenderam criando um cartaz.
No trabalho incluíram mensagens importantes como: plantar mais árvores, reduzir, reutilizar e reciclar, poupar água, proteger os animais e combater a poluição.
Esta atividade ajudou a desenvolver não só a criatividade, mas também o sentido de responsabilidade ambiental e de cidadania.
A Terra está nas nossas mãos — o que fazemos hoje molda o mundo de amanhã.

🇺🇸 As part of a special activity, students were challenged to create their own comic stories based on folklore characters from our country.
Through this activity, students practiced their English skills while exploring and celebrating their cultural identity.
They worked on storytelling, dialogue writing, and visual expression.

🇨🇻 No âmbito de uma atividade especial, os alunos foram desafiados a criar as suas próprias bandas desenhadas baseadas em personagens folclóricas do nosso país.

Através desta atividade, os alunos praticaram as suas competências em inglês enquanto exploravam e celebravam a sua identidade cultural.

Trabalharam a narrativa, a escrita de diálogos e a expressão visual.

🇺🇸 On April 21st, the students practiced their speaking skills in a fun and interactive way using games.
Activities like these really help them feel more comfortable speaking English without the pressure of a traditional lesson.
It’s amazing to see how they learn while having fun, sharing ideas, and just being themselves.
It’s a great reminder that learning a language can be both fun and effective at the same time.

🇨🇻 No dia 21 de abril, os estudantes colocaram em prática a capacidade de conversação de uma forma divertida e interativa através de jogos.
Atividades como estas ajudam os alunos a sentirem-se mais à vontade para falar inglês sem a pressão de uma aula tradicional.
É incrível ver como aprendem enquanto se divertem, partilham ideias, sendo eles próprios.
É um ótimo lembrete de que aprender uma língua pode ser divertido e eficaz ao mesmo tempo.

Nos dias 9 e 10 de Abril, a Associação Chã De Matias recebeu a visita do Escritório Regional de Programas de Inglês - RELO Dakar - Regional English Language Office - West Africa, que teve como objetivo realizar a avaliação da execução do Access Program.

On April 9th ​​and 10th, a Associação Chã De Matias received a visit from the Regional English Language Office - West Africa - RELO Dakar, which aimed to evaluate the implementation of the Access Program.

Pt. 🇨🇻 Hoje contamos com a presença do Sr. Ciríaco Brito, especialista em Sistemas de Informação, que trouxe o tema ' Segurança Online e Redes Sociais'.

O objetivo do tema foi de capacitar os estudantes de ferramentas que os possam ajudar a identificar 'fake news', proteger a sua privacidade, aprender a utilizar as ferramentas digitais a seu favor, evitar o cyberbullying, etc.

Após essa formação os alunos irão criar uma página do 'Access Program' no Instagram, sob supervisão dos professores.

De realçar que o tema abordado vai ao encontro da Unidade finalizada 'Your Virtual Self'.

Também devemos mencionar que o Sr Ciríaco é pai de um estudante do Access, o que vai ao encontro do objetivo de aproximar os pais do Projeto.

🇺🇸 EN. Today we were joined by Mr. Ciríaco Brito, an Information Systems specialist, who presented on the topic of 'Digital Security and Social Networks'.

The objective of the presentation was to equip students with tools that can help them identify 'fake news', protect their privacy, learn to use digital tools to their advantage, avoid cyberbullying, etc.

Following this training, the students will create an 'Access Program' page on Instagram, under the supervision of their teachers.

It should be noted that the topic addressed aligns with the completed Unit 'Your Virtual Self'.

We should also emphasize that Mr. Ciríaco is the father of an Access student, which fulfills the objective of bringing parents closer to the Project.

PT. 🇨🇻 Ao explorarem a aula “Nossa História Americana através das Histórias Orais”, os alunos do grupo 2, sob orientação da professora Lenise Santiago, participaram em diversas atividades.
Eles assistiram a um vídeo sobre a história de um pescador de lagosta cuja narrativa foi transmitida de geração em geração, ajudando-os a compreender algumas das experiências que os americanos enfrentaram ao longo da sua história.
Após assistirem ao vídeo, os alunos foram incentivados a relacionar a história com a realidade cabo-verdiana, estabelecendo ligações entre as tradições orais de ambas as culturas.
Também foram expostos a diferentes tipos de tradições de narrativas históricas, como histórias de família, piadas, lendas, mitos, anedotas, folclore e contos.
Em seguida, os alunos escolheram o tipo de história que consideraram mais expressivo para contar a sua própria história.
Depois de compreenderem a tarefa, utilizaram a imaginação e as suas competências de escrita para criar as suas narrativas, dando ênfase ao uso de perguntas abertas e fechadas para desenvolver as histórias.

EN. 🇺🇸 While exploring the lesson “Our American story through oral histories”, studends, from group 2, under supervision of teacher Lenise, were engaged in a variety of activities. They watched a video about a lobster fisherman whose story had been passed down from generation to genaration, helping them understand some of experiences Americans faced throughout their history.
After watching the video, students were engaged to relate the story to the Cape verdian reality making connecting between oral traditions in both cultures. They were also introduced to diffferent kinds of historical storytelling traditions such as family story, jokes, legends, myths, anecdotes, folclore and tall tales.
Studends then chose the type of story they felt was the most expressive in order to tell their own story. Once they understood the assignment, they used their imagination and writing skill to create their narratives, emphsasing the use of open ended and closed question to develop their stories.
