There’s a very specific kind of love in Balkan households: our mothers’ love that sounds like a threat, looks like a warning, and still means “I’d do anything for you.” 💜
If you grew up with a Balkan mom (anywhere in the world), you didn’t need fluent Serbian to understand her. You just knew the tone or the look that meant “we’re not done here.” 😒
If you’re second-gen, mixed heritage, or just grew up abroad with one Balkan parent, there’s usually a gap. You understand the feeling behind the words, but not always the words themselves. And that gap can turn into distance, with grandparents, with family back home, with a whole part of who you are. 💔
That is why many of you learn Serbian with us. It’s about finally understanding and being able to talk back. And mean it. 🤗
Our group Serbian classes start this September. Made for people just like you: diaspora kids, partners of Balkan people, or anyone who’s ready to stop nodding along and finally understand. 🙌🏽
