About us:
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom is the foundation for liberal politics in the Federal Republic of Germany. It aims to promote the goal of making the principle of freedom valid for the dignity of all people and in all areas of society, both in Germany and abroad. In our project countries, the support of human rights, rule of law and democracy in more than 60 countries form the core of the work of the regional offices in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Central America; various forms of international dialogue and transatlantic dialogue programme are used to promote these three values around the world. The foundation supports local, regional, and national initiatives to advance the rights of minorities, the democratic control of security forces and strengthening international human rights coalitions. A new episode of “Mostograditelji” has just been released! Former professional football player Neven Subotic is now helping many underprivileged people in East Africa gain access to water as the director of Well:fair. In his episode, Neven talks about his dual journey of integration: what it was like to adapt to life in Germany after fleeing the war, and later to readapt into the Serbian way of life as a player for the national team, despite never having lived there. A must-watch!

For those of you that speak German ... In Episode #8 die Podcasts „Rajsferšlus – Politik, die verbindet“ der Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit diskutieren Dušan Dinić und Toni Skorić mit Filip Perišić als Führungskraft in einem internationalen Technologiekonzern. Zugleich ist er Unternehmer und ehemaliger Gründer eines Start-ups.

Filip erzählt von seiner beruflichen Laufbahn und seinen Erfahrungen mit der deutschen Bürokratie bei der Gründung eigener Unternehmen. Dabei plädiert er für eine neue Kultur des Gründens: weniger unnötige und bisweilen absurde Hürden, mehr Vertrauen und bessere Bedingungen für kreative und unternehmerische Menschen, die ihren eigenen Arbeitsplatz und den anderer schaffen wollen.

Every visitor to Srebrenica leaves the site of the genocide without words. Gisela Piltz’s visit to Srebrenica Memorial Center coincided with Ratko Mladić’s funeral and an outpouring of nationalism and chauvinism in Serbia, which appears to be endorsed and encouraged by the country’s leadership.

Serbia’s current government has shown that it is not prepared to confront the past in a manner consistent with European values. The genocide in Srebrenica was perpetrated by the Army of Republika Srpska under Mladić’s command, for which he was tried and sentenced by the ICTY.

Remembering the victims means rejecting denial, nationalism, and impunity. It means standing firmly for truth, accountability, and human dignity.

The 25th edition of BelgradePride came to a successful close on Saturday with the Pride March. Several thousand people – members of the LGBTIQ community as well as engaged citizens – marched in support of an open society and civil rights for all citizens.

Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit is proud to support the wonderful local organisations that made this celebration possible. Gisela Piltz, a member of our Board of Trustees, was invited to join the opening of the parade and to carry the banner “There’s Room for All of Us”.

It was heartening to see that voices calling for tolerance and solidarity are still around in Serbia. A big thank you to our other guests, Michael Kauch, President of LiSL Deutschland, and David Chalmers - Politician from Liberal Democrats.

During Belgrade Pride Week, Michael Kauch, Chair of the Liberals for G**s, Le****ns, Bisexuals, Trans and Q***r People LiSL Deutschland, joined important conversations on LGBTI+ rights and European integration.
As a panelist at “LGBTI+ Rights in the EU Accession Process,” organised by our partner organisation Da Se Zna, he discussed the importance of protecting LGBTI+ rights as an integral part of Serbia's EU accession process.
During his visit, Michael Kauch also held talks with PSG Pokret slobodnih građana and CRTA - two important partners of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.

The FNF Western Balkans partner CINS - Centar za istraživačko novinarstvo Srbije visited three teams of colleagues in Germany: “DIE ZEIT”, “Der Tagesspiegel”, and “Table Media”.

The exchange once again highlighted the added value of cross-border encounters: sharing experiences, learning from one another and jointly reflecting on the challenges facing journalism. Especially at a time when freedom of expression and media freedom are increasingly under pressure, such connections are more important than ever. Free, diverse and independent journalism needs exchange, solidarity and strong networks.
