CONFERENCE BACKGROUND
The series of Urban Drainage Modelling conferences started back in 1986 in Dubrovnik, former Yugoslavia, when the first conference was organized by Čedo Maksimović and the late Miodrag Radojković from the University of Belgrade. Since then, Professor Maksimović has been the spiritus movens of the whole UDM conference series. The group of his former co-workers, involved in org
anization of the first four UDM conferences, are paying him a tribute by organising the 9th UDM conference in Belgrade in 2012 when Professor Maksimović will retire. CONFERENCE TOPICS
UDM conference topics are traditionally related to modelling urban drainage (UD) systems and interactions with other urban water systems and urban/suburban environment. The conference is designed to bring together specialists, researchers and practitioners, to exchange experience, demonstrate present potentials, improve the reliability of UD modelling and to set-up the stage for its future developments. Belgrade (Beograd, see http://www.beograd.rs) is the capital of Serbia, with population of around 1.6 million. Situated on the Balkan Peninsula, at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, it is one of the oldest cities in Europe and has since ancient times been an important focal point for traffic, and intersection of the roads of Eastern and Western Europe. The official language is Serbian, while foreign visitors have no difficulties communicating in English.
