Forest, Forestry and Poverty

Deforestation is considered as one of the main global environmental challenges of our times, because of its significant impact on biodiversity and its important contribution to Climate Change and Global Warming, as well as on the livelihoods of millions of people. Our course analyzes the way deforestation has been and is being explained by both mainstream and alternative narratives, critically engages with the way it is defined and measured, and discusses the various attempts in stopping or reducing it.

The MA in Environment, Development, and Peace (EDP) provides comprehensive training in issues of sustainable development, environmental governance, natural resource management, and environmental conflict management from both ecological and social perspectives.

Our specialization in Sustainable Food Systems (SFS) emerges from the understanding that we must urgently change our relationship to food production and consumption in order to move towards greater sustainability.

Our specialization in Climate Change Policy (CCP) addresses the complex relationship between climate change and security issues at the international, national and local levels.

Our specialization in Environmental Security and Governance (ESG) is designed for those wishing to critically engage with issues concerning Global Environmental Change and Security.

The specialization in Sustainable Natural Resource Management (SNRM) is primarily designed for those intending to engage in community- oriented work in natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, or sustainable development.

Our Master of Arts (MA) degree in Responsible Management and Sustainable Economic Development (RMSED) emphasizes economic and management perspectives of peace while focusing on the concepts of sustainability and responsibility.
