El 8 de marzo tiene sus raíces en las luchas de mujeres trabajadoras a inicios del siglo XX, que salieron a las calles para exigir mejores condiciones laborales, derechos y dignidad.
En ese mismo periodo, las sufragistas en distintos países impulsaron uno de los movimientos políticos más importantes de la historia moderna: la lucha por el derecho al voto y la participación política de las mujeres.
Gracias a décadas de movilización y organización colectiva, estas luchas abrieron el camino para muchos de los derechos que hoy existen: participación política, acceso a la educación, derechos laborales y avances hacia la igualdad de género.
El 8M es una oportunidad para recordar esa historia y reflexionar sobre los desafíos que aún quedan para construir sociedades más justas y pacíficas.
8M has its roots in the struggles of women workers in the early 20th century, who took to the streets demanding better working conditions, rights, and dignity.
During the same period, suffragists across different countries led one of the most important political movements of modern history: the fight for women’s right to vote and participate in political life.
Through decades of collective mobilization and advocacy, these movements helped pave the way for many of the rights women hold today — including political participation, access to education, labor rights, and broader progress toward gender equality.
International Women’s Day is an opportunity to remember this history and reflect on the work that remains to build more just and peaceful societies.
