CATIE Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center CATIE combines research, education and external projection to improve human well-being through agriculture and natural resources.

CATIE's vision is to be the international land grant university specialized in agriculture and natural resources that effect CATIE is an international university, based on the land grant university model of the United States, which integrates three basic functions: research, education and external projection, understood as the extension and application of knowledge in the field. CATIE's mandate fo

cuses on supporting the sustainable management of agriculture and natural resources in Latin America and the Caribbean. Its members are the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), Belize, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Venezuela and the State of Acre in Brazil. Strategic alliances are key to CATIE's work, facilitating a wide dissemination of scientific knowledge and practical experience to meet the urgent needs of member countries in agriculture and natural resource management. The partners include more than 200 public and private institutions: universities, research and development centers, governmental and non-governmental institutions, conservation organizations, cooperatives, small and medium-sized enterprises and corporations. Its governance entities provide a powerful platform for change: the Inter-American Board of Agriculture, representatives of the 34 countries of the Organization of American States; Higher Council, the Ministers of Agriculture or Environment of the member countries and IICA; and the Board of Directors of CATIE, scientists, academics and corporate executives. These partners multiply the impacts of CATIE:

- 100 sustainable research and development projects are currently in operation in 17 countries.
- 100,000 people benefited in the last decade through our development projects.
- 75% of the projects are targeted at low-income producers, including women and indigenous people.
- About 2,000 masters and doctoral graduates from 45 countries work in leadership positions.
- Leading researchers-teachers from 21 countries are mentors of students in classrooms and in the field.
