Led by our mission of cultivating in young people the passion and ability to serve humanity and our planet—learning from nature and from each other for

a lifetime, we offer a bilingual program, opportunities to learn more about the region's social, political, and cultural history, and embedded in our curriculum, many options to explore Costa Rica sustainably, following our Sustainability Framework.

UWC Costa Rica officially welcomes the 2026-2027 student cohort to campus! This year, 196 passionate youth representing 63 different nationalities have arrived to embark on a transformative two-year boarding high school experience focused on peace and sustainability.

This vibrant community includes students from Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, North America, and the Caribbean. Driven by the mission to make quality education accessible, 85% of these changemakers attend with partial or full financial assistance. Over the next two years, they will live and learn together, developing critical leadership skills through experiential learning.

First-year students continue their orientation week by immersing themselves in "Conociendo San José," exploring the capital's culture, food, and urban landscape while learning to travel mindfully across the host country. ⚡

Putting empathy and reciprocity into practice, the new cohort also participated in their first Community Action Day. Working alongside the Environmental Management team of the Municipalidad de Santa Ana, students headed to Calle Lajas—just 1 km from campus—to support a local soil restoration project. Together, they planted around 300 vetiver plants to prevent erosion and prepared garden spaces for bromeliads. 💕

The educational journey at UWC Costa Rica extends far beyond the classroom, beginning with the vital networks that support our students. The college recently hosted its annual "Families Cafecito," an essential orientation activity designed to welcome families, foster community engagement, and introduce them to the institution's values.

This special event creates a collaborative environment where families from around the world can build meaningful connections. A standout feature of the gathering is the celebration of diversity, as family members bring and share traditional dishes unique to their home countries.

Understanding the global nature of our community, a virtual "Cafecito" experience was also hosted to ensure that families unable to travel to Costa Rica could participate in this intentional cross-cultural bridge.

The academic year at UWC Costa Rica kicks off with a burst of energy as first-year students participate in “Conociendo Santa Ana”. This exciting, rally-styled event is designed to introduce the incoming cohort to the vibrant surroundings and natural biodiversity embedded within the Santa Ana campus community. Guided by their second-year Residence Assistants (RAs), new students explore their new home while building the foundational bonds of cooperative living.

As part of orientation week, this immersive experience empowers incoming youth to safely navigate and adapt to the local Costa Rican context. Moving from one interactive station to the next, the new cohort learned the basics of campus life—mastering waste management with sustainability as a priority, practicing essential Spanish phrases, taking their official ID photos, and discovering key mental health resources.

This helps new arrivals navigate their international boarding high school experience while bonding with peers from around the globe. By blending practical daily logistics with wellness and environmental stewardship, these young changemakers start building a vibrant, supportive community from day one ✨ |
