Bright colors, music, and vibrant local bands filled the streets of San Isidro de Heredia for Costa Rica’s 15 de Septiembre Independence Day celebrations. A cohort of UWC Costa Rica students joined local neighbors to experience one of the country’s most cherished traditions! 🇨🇷

Participating in local civic celebrations builds lasting ties with San Isidro, laying the groundwork for continuous local collaboration. We are grateful with the Municipalidad San Isidro for inviting us to participate!

As preparations move forward for the opening of the new campus in August 2027, every shared moment strengthens the connection between the students and their future home ⚡️

Among Costa Rica's vibrant, emblematic occasions, the parades and festivities honoring our nation's Independence Day stand out. Every September 15th, crowds assemble across the nation, reveling in a lively atmosphere filled with music, artistic displays, and dance performances. This celebration not only pays tribute to Costa Rica but also embraces the entirety of Latin America. It is a day to reflect on our shared values of democracy, peace, and environmental stewardship.

Today, our streets are filled with students from schools and high schools across the country to celebrate Independence Day. Our students are enjoying the parades in Santa Ana and taking part in the parades in San Isidro de Heredia as new neighbors in town. We are looking back at the past 20 years and how our have celebrated Costa Rica's Independence Day! ✨

UWC Costa Rica IB1 students dove into the Agents of Change (AoC) Camp — choosing their path in social entrepreneurship, STEM, or activism to design projects that tackle real-world challenges. From bold ideas to actionable plans, this is where the next generation of changemakers begins to find their voice. ✨

On Saturday afternoon, all 14 groups delivered their final elevator pitches. The presentations were creative, thoughtful, and grounded in real community needs. The winning project — "1 in 3, 3 for 1" — tackled gender equality head-on and was awarded $400 to bring their idea to life!

UWC Costa Rica and Universidad EARTH have officially signed a framework agreement to advance sustainable education and environmental research.

This strategic alliance brings together two institutions committed to ethical leadership, sustainability, and educational innovation. Key areas of collaboration include piloting the System Transformation Pathways program on food systems transformation, hands-on scientific research in a "Living Laboratory," and shared technical expertise for UWC Costa Rica's new campus in San Isidro.

The Agents of Change (AoC) Camp is one of UWC Costa Rica's most inspiring Co-Curricular experiences — a space where students choose between social entrepreneurship, STEM, and activism to design projects that drive real-world impact. This year, the IB2 students are stepping into a new role: Facilitators. 🌱

Before the camp kicks off, second-year students undergo dedicated Facilitator Training to prepare to guide their peers through the experience they once lived as first-years. It's leadership in action — and a testament to the kind of changemakers UWC Costa Rica nurtures every day. 14 IB2 facilitators traveled to Cartago to lead an experiential workshop at San Luis Gonzaga — the oldest high school in Costa Rica. Together with 31 students from two local schools, they explored community challenges, innovative solutions, and the foundations of social entrepreneurship. ⚡
